You know often hotels will give you insane rates on conference rooms if you will be using them at night. About 3 years ago I rented a conference room in San Francisco for a lan party. They originally quoted me 900.00 for one nights use but I was able to negotiate them down to 250.00 for 2 nights use! The possibility of a recurring event and being able to get people to rent rooms in enough incentive for the hotel managers to drastically reduce prices. It never hurts to make some calls and see where you end up. I have also used school buildings, warehouses, empty office space and even a church. (it was odd to play Unreal in a church for some reason) Empty office space is super easy to find and they may require a deposit. Empty space is not bringing in any cash to these land owners Quite a few owners would love a few hundred extra dollars in their pockets. You can cover costs by requiring an entry fee and give away something lame like a 1 gb usb key. People strangely don't mind gambling (like in a random drawing) with the entry fee but oddly are opposed to forking out a regular entry fee with no chance to get a prize. Just some ideas for you peeps, take em or leave em.
