I got a dv8230ca (in Canada). It's very nice laptop (T2300 Duo / 1 GB RAM 667 / 160 GB HDD 5400). I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

The only question I have (I already have posted that as a new thread) is that when I check my graphic adapter's memory, it reports it 512 MB however in laptop specs, It says it is 128 MB (My display adapter is GeForce Go 7400). Can I ask what display adapter you have on your laptop? Does it report 512 MB or something else?

Thanks,
-Ali

The Go 7400 has 128 dedicated, 128 system shared, 256 total. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_CAEN Video Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 Video Memory 128MB discrete + 128MB shared Go into the bios, there's a setting to adjust I've read. I wouldn't put too much faith whatever is telling you it's 512... notice the 512 is exactly twice the amount it should be. It sounds like a "bug" in the what the ram is reported. E-Mail HP so they can add this to the next bios update. 8000 series is pretty new...

LEDs don't draw much juice. You're not going to notice an increase. Turn down the screen brightness, run more ram, set hd to go to sleep when idle.

Battery life?

I have been thinking of getting an HP DV8230US from where I work (Circuit City). I was wondering what the battery life was like and if I could play any good 3D games on it. Also, I'm not that familiar with laptops, but is it possible to change out an Nvidia Go 7400 with an Nvidia Go 7800 or 7900? Thank you in advance.

Why not custom order one from costco.com, with their 6month return policy. I jsut placed my order a couple of days ago. Costed me 1584 with 100back.

i got the Geforce 7600go with 256mb dedicated, this card should play all of the games out right now. I had the 7400 before it was okay.. but not great.

You can't change the GPU. (AFAIK... and if I'm wrong... please by all means post info on upgrading the GPU!!!) Best option is to order thru www.costco.com as the dv8000t's are shipping with the 7600 series card now. http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigur...&model=EX177AV

Costco is THE PLACE to buy from...

6 month return policy that protects you from a major hardware change... getting jerked around on a repair, Mfg not shipping parts as promised...
