Sony v505 Hard Drive change .. is it possible ??

Thread Starter
Hy Everybody ..
I have a Sony v505-ECP.. It´s a Centrino 1.5 ... 12" notebook.
I´m planning on upgrading the 40Gb 4200 Hard drive.
Is it possible to put a 5400 RPM HD in that machine???
Has anyone ever did anything like that on the v505 series???
Thanks for any reply
Rodrigo

I have the same note (V505ECP) and I'm using a ST9808211A (5400 rpm HD). No problems at all.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I'm having a real trouble with the hard drive.
Here goes:

A few moments ago, the hard drive in my V505-DX was dead, and since I wasn't ready for a new NB, I went on to the streets, seeking for a replacement.

But as soon as the sales heard that I'm using a Sony, they just shook their heads and warned me not to pick anything more than 60GB capacity (the default spec. for V505-DX) which was already out of stock.

Should I just follow their suggestions and wait for a 60GB, or can I get a larger one - like, 100 GB - from the stock instead (I was hoping for a 100GB when I first realized that it's time for a replacement)? If a larger one was the choice, are there any suggestions about the brand or other specs should I be aware of while purchasing?

Responses will be appreciated. Thanks!

please could you elaborate on how to replace Hard drive on V 505 DP? Also how do we reload the soft ware again? Does the 'Normal'/Incremental backup repstore the function to normal again?

It is very easy to replace the hard drive. Buy any IDE hard drive and use the recovery CD to restore the system. Hard drive size is not a problem at all. By the way, mine is V505-DX.

you could put any speed hard drive in there. Taking those apart are very simple, keep your work area organized!
