Driver without "background noise" - Page 2

It definitely has to do with "BRIGHTNESS" levels in ATI CCC. When I even turned up / down the brightness by 15, the "noise" completely went away.

Might be because you actually could not see it anymore. But did it go away also in like blueish colours? DO you have QDI or LTN screen?

I consulted it with a guy who is working with IT and he said it is a sign of bad or not properly working Graphic card. The same happens on CRTs when the card is getting bad or is old and has issues. I think it has something to do with the whole implementation of the X1600 in ACER (also the buzz and other stuff)...just guessing, but he said he has seen stuff like that and he was prety sure about...

Well that's not a good sign. Not sure it necessarily has to do with the X1600 in the Acer. We need some other X1600's in some computers to test this against.

However, I am definitely going to send mine in when I get out of school this semester and have them clear up:

Loose hinge (which I think I knocked loose in my backpack, but don't tell!)
Lines on screen/"noise"/request QDI
Buzzing GPU

Despite these issues, I am still super happy with the laptop. Who knows, perhaps I am an easy sell. One thing that i love in the Acer that i cant find other places, it is minor, but the middle button on the touchpad! it is so awesome! It scrolls up and down for me in firefox, and goes Back and Forward as well. I love it, makes mouseless surfing so easy whereas it can be a real pain otherwise.

I wonder if the people who swapped out their screens for other ones besides the qdi and ltn experience this "noise"? Probably do but just want to know what their experience is.

I'm surprised that there are only three of us tryin' to find out what's goin' on. I know that at least Kohaar has exactly the same problem and I'm sure that there are more people affected. There is a chance that all TM8204 (or even X1600) users have the same issue!
Yep. Apparently I have the same problem, but the only time I have ever noticed it is on the website you showed me, so I haven't looked into it further.
That could also be the reason that people aren’t looking into it, because they haven’t noticed it. If you get an Acer with a “poor” screen and have to compensate for this by increasing the brightness perhaps it’s more noticeable?

This is my first post about "background noise" and your answer below:

I didn't compensate anything. I would never touch brightness or contrast slider! I'm a photographer and I don't like to loose any details in shadows or highlights, so the only thing that I use to tweak the screen is slight gamma correction. I would prefer to have more control over the curve (like in Nvidia drivers), but so far it is the best way to tweak this screen, I belive.
I think that "overtweaking" the screen is the reason why some users don't see that issue. They just cut some details in the shadows, but it doesn't mean that the problem disappeared!

Forgot about that. I just checked again to be sure, but the noise in the windows startup and movies has dissapeared? Thats why I didn't think about it. After that post, I installed like 4 different GFX drivers for testing, so it's hard to say what has happend. I do however still see noise in the background on the homepage?

Right now I haven't done any ajustments in gamma or brightness in the graphics driver.

Just started Oblivion. There seems to be a little noise in the loading screen, but in game I can't see anything.

Check HQ overlay in WMP10...
?
Turn on hardware acceleration and high quality overlay mode in Windows Media Player 10 - you'll see the noise in every movie... That's the easiest way to check it...
My hardware acc. is set to full, and even though I can't seem to find a HQ overlay "switch", I have alle overlay options checked. No noise visible.

I just ran 3DMark 06 and I couldn't see any artifacts or noise?
Check WMP10 settings, that's the only way I know to manualy turn the noise on and off
post #36 of 161
Only HQ mode turns the noise on...
Sure. There it is. :-(
and what do you think about it? shoudn't we report it to ATI?
Depends. If other x1600 have the same problems, we should. If they don't the error should be reported to Acer?

It is really weird that just very few people is complaining about that... I mean it can really be pretty visible and annoying, cant it?

But to be perfectly honest - today I met the reseller who I was returnign my 4th TM8204 to, and he told me that there came a guy demanding 8204. They told him, they have the one I returned that has some issues (bad pixel, these splotches, buzzing and buzzing and buzzing and loose touchpad middle button). He said he would love to try it and he bought it. Now he is having it for four days and he came to the reseller all happy how great laptop it is and to report he is gonna keep it! So there are users and users. Maybe we are quite special for ACER standards... There is a lot of people not complaining, because they just use it for Word processing or wathcing movies or...I do not really know how come they do not notice basic stuff that goes wrong...
