Driver without "background noise" - Page 3

Well. It doesn't annoy me that much. I did not use HQ overlay in media player, and the noise have for some reason disappeared in 3D, so it's not that big an issue for me.

I have heard from a lot of people who really like this machine (like me), so I guess it comes down to what you need it for. If I had the buzzing sound, it would be useless since I do 3D programming, and if I used this notebook for photography like Jaad75, I would probably be very disappointed about the screen.

I still haven't found another notebook that has this much power packed in such a small machine, and most of the “problems” I have, are problems I first became aware of after reading about them on this forum.

I have actually seen people describe the screen as perfect, which is kind of strange, but it depends on the person who looks at it.

Hold on guys - if you check the HQ off, the noise dissapears, correct? But does it dissapear completely or only in MP10? I gues only in MP, right? So how did you manage to turn the noise off competely respectively in 3D, games and so on??? My next baby will be equiped with X1600 so I really would be interested in this...

I'll repeat it again: I don't have a constant noise anymore. I'm tryin' to recreate it, just to understand why it's gone after OS reinstallation. As I said - I don't belive in self repairing computers and I need to find out if that noise is software or hardware related problem. So far it's the only way I found to manualy turn it on and because the noise in WMP10 looks the same as my "original" noise, it's caused by the same defect, propably... Of course there is still some noise on http://www.thegamebooks.com/ezdloads.php, even if I don't have it in other situation, so X1600 doesn't work properly for sure, but in fact it could be caused by some kind of GPU-LCD incompatibility...

Hehe. Could be the same as me, where the computer just suddenly deicide that it was a bad thing.

No. Seriously. I believe it's a software problem, because it seems to have disappeared after I installed all those different drivers. Maybe I should try a fresh install, and see if the problems come back with the original ATI driver. That would show whether it's a software or hardware problem?

I think it could bring some light into it. The problem is the lack of drivers straight from ATI...maybe they know why they are not officially releasing the X1000 drivers series...

Jaad, check your mailbox please.

I have also wondered about that. It seems strange, that the notebook driver only supports up to x800.
Lets hope there will be a monster driver. One that will kick my 3Dmark05 up to 8000 :-)

Why not 10000 if it is gonna be fo X1..... But seriously, if you decide to do the fresh install and can find out what the trouble is, please let us know, I think it can be very beneficial, cause it looks like mistery of ATI right now...

Hey Guys,

I have the exact same problem with background noise. You can't adjst brightnes or contrast as it gets even worse. I sent it to Acer to get fixed, they sent it back and said there was no problem!!!!!. I told them how to recreate it. I am so sick of Acer!!!. On positive note they did fix the buzzing by replacing the VGA choke. If anybody can work out what is causing the background noise on the LCD please let me know, it is so frustrating!!!.

Enlighten

Okay,

it is the ACER thing! I have my new HP nx9420 with X1600 in it and it reproduces crisp and superbright picture, no noise whatsoever, so it must be somehting with ACER again. I checked out MacBooks Pro, nobody has this issue so far...sorry guys...

Not necessarily 137. The 8204 did not show the noise when people first received it, but upon upgrading drivers.

Have you upgraded the drivers yet? Several times?

There is no driver from HP to upgrade to...and I am not gonna put Omegas into it, while it messes up the S-Video output. 20 points in 3DMark05 are not worth it, I guess.

I mean, I wish you were right. I also wish ATI guys should move their asses on and release the official drivers for ATI mobility X1000 series cards, because this is shame users have to do beta testing for them and few enthusiasts that are offering alternatives.

I had the noise from very beginning on each of the ACERs I guess, so I cant confirm or deny. I will keep you posted what I will find out from HPs side.

cheers

I guess I may or may not have had the noise since the beginning, but if I did, i did not notice it immediately. Thats why i believe it was a development.

Depending on W3J reviews, I may pop my 8204 on eBay just for the form factor. My company (NCIX) doesn't take laptop returns, and I am not confident in following through with legal action (small-claims court).

I got rid of buzzing

If people are talking about bizzzzzz on keyboard press.

I just installed a new Audio driver which ACER posted for fixing other issues. After installing the driver I don't have any buzzing and my built-in speakers appear to be about twice as loud.

No, it's not the matter of buzz. Read this:

Well, mine has gone back to the factory for LCD replacement. I also don't recall the noise being there until one day when I cleaned the fan with some canned air and damaged it and then the i notticed the backgorund noise. I installed and uninstalled Omega drivers and ATITool before so I don't know what caused it. Two mates at work have 8200s too (bought the same day) and they don't have background noise. I just hope they can fix it by changing the LCD or after system restore, I don't care what they do if they solve the problem.
Ok. I have a new LCD screen today and the bacground noise is still there. It seems a little brighter though and a bit more difficult to notice but the noise hasn't gone. Two friends of mine have 8200s without noise so tomorrow i'll be trying booting from their hard disks and we'll dinally figure out if this is software or hardware related.

Hope this thread was more active.
It's hardware, we know this already... It's there even under Linux...
It's software. Seen this happen on the buddy's laptop after installation of Omega drivers (based on Cat. 6.5). Going to Displays, selecting laptop LCD and turning brightness there down a notch totally fixed it. The problem is with 'tweaks' done by modded drivers that do not account for some differences with calibrating for X1xxx series. The noise is a result of clipping due to unbalanced brightness.
Yeah, sure... I have it with all the drivers: Acer's, original Catalyst and Omegas... As I said, it's there under Linux also - so don't try to start from the beginning again... Omega increased the noise using something similar to HQ overlay mode in WMP10, but you can see the problem with all the drivers, the only thing is that you can notice it mainly when using photo editing or screen testing software. I could see it in couple of games and on some websites where I knew that eg. background is solid, but it's not so easy to notice as "Omega drivers overlay noise"...
