I just ordered an ABS zForce F2 (w/ 802.11g and pseudo-leather case). The total price came out to $1643.50 USD. I am really looking forward to getting this laptop, but I have a nagging feeling that perhaps the F1 would have been just as good for me (while costing about $170 less w/ 802.11g PCMCIA card).
There are not very many differences between these notebooks. The F1 has a Pentium 4 3.06ghz CPU w/ Hyper-Threading, while the F2 has a Pentium Mobile 1.6ghz. The F1 has a 64mb Mobile Radeon 9000, while the F2 has a 64mb Mobile Radeon 9600. They each have a different "barebones" base unit (F1 has a Uniwill 755IA, while the F2 has an AOpen 1557g). Other than that, the only apparent differences are the price and battery life (F1 is rated at 3.5 hours, F2 is rated at 4 hours). Is there anything else I need to know about these two notebooks? Does the F1 put out significantly more heat due to the P4?
I am interested primarily in game development, but I also want to be able to play Warcraft III, Battlefield 1942, etc. I also don't want to spend too much money ($1643 for the F2 is basically the top of my budget). Did I make the right choice?
