I use a Canon SD550...awesome little camera. Though I'd give up that extra megapixel for the ISO800 and the image stabilisation in the SD700. Otherwise I LOVE my SD550. Best digital camera I've ever used and the image quality is amazing for a point and shoot.

I have lots of photos here: www.flickr.com/photos/kakaze

i looked at the sd550, but at the time for me it was way more price wise and was less performance.... at least megamixel wise...

Megapixels aren't everything...

I've been very pleased with my Ixus 500, it's easily surpassed expectations for a compact point and shoot.

With little experience I have, I agree that megapixels themselves are not a good indicator of the camera quality. Probably the CCD is. However, we commonly talk about megapixels (together with the year that we bought) to give an idea of the generation of the camera, and that is a good indicator.

Camera brand/megapixels/year gives a good idea to those who 0wn on digital photography, and still is a friendly way to talk about when it comes to beginners like me. We can say the model only, but that's not n00b-friendly

on the web, even 1 mp seems ok. but printing is another story. 4x6 prints with my old 2 mp came out a bit grainy. with the 7 mp canon they r much much sharper.
