5660: Can't find Morrowind CD-ROM

I've had my 5660 for about a week now. I love this thing.

That said, I have a problem. I have installed Morrowind on my 5660, but now everytime I try to play it, I get an error dialog saying that it can't find the Morrowind CD-ROM and to eject the media and try again. Well I have ejected and retried many times now, with no luck. I don't know what is wrong, because I was able to play the game after I first installed it on my laptop, but now, nothing.

Any ideas?

Hmm, thats odd on a system with only one drive. Try installing the latest patch and see if that clears it up. If not there are "patched" .exe files that will let you play without the CD. I can e-mail you a location if you can't get the game to run. Great game though, VERY graphics intensive.

Good luck.

One thing with a lot of modern computer games is the copy protection. Often times the copy protection is so "good" that even real cds do not get recognized. It's a big problem actually. Plus, if you do have a copy, that won't work (unless you make the copy a certain way, etc etc, I won't get into that). Like he said though, you can get the cracked exe that will allow you to play with no cd. Generally, if the game won't recognize the cd, the best thing to do is uninstall it and reinstall it. If it still doesn't work, definitely look for the latest patch, and if none is out yet, get the .exe crack until one comes out (but be careful because the patch my not install if you have a cracked exe file.... so you might want to make a backup copy of it and put it back in there when you want to install the patch). Keep in mind, though, that this happens with all systems, it is not something specific to certain systems or certain setups. Generally, the cd-rom you use determines your luck, and there really isn't a "best" drive for this. It's more luck... software companies are dying to get the bugs out of Safedisc and such. Hope that helps... Lemme know if you have more questions.

Yeah that's fine and dandy, but this isn't a consistent thing. For example, I just loaded Morrowind up and it didn't have a problem. The only thing that was different this time is that I had had my laptop on standby for the night. i.e. opened it the display up this morning and tried againa dn it worked.

Weird.

Yeah, this problem is inconsistent :-) But, it may not be your problem. What you are describing is very weird.
