Case Suggestions For Dell D820

Thread Starter
So what are you folks carrying your nice new laptop around in? I am thinking about purchasing a Brenthaven or Tumi case for mine and am looking for any feedback regarding the quality of these cases. I'm looking for a quality case which will protect the laptop well from bumps and impact. Thanks in advance!!

Here's what I carry my laptop around in. The pics are old, but the case has lasted me three Laptops. Unforunately I have not found anymore for sale ANYWHERE! Which is unfortunate, it's really nice. The laptop in the pic is my old Inspiron 5000e. My 8200 calls that case home, and my D820 will also call that case home.

I have a samsonite bookbag for school I use daily and the pouch for laptops that came with it fits the D820 like a glove. Since I'm a student, this solution is ideal

I'm also interested in ideas for a bag for my D820 (arriving tomorrow).

I'm thinking of getting a sleeve from sfbags (they make custom sizes for specific laptops, and I've read on these forums that they fit like a glove) and then slipping that into my current backpack (since I'm also a student)

edit: Is the D820 the same size as the D810? Because on SFbags, they only have a size for the D810.

Yeah, back when that picture was taken I was setting that case up to go to LAN parties.....no kidding either, the ATi Rage mobility in that Inspiron played Quake 3, Jedi Knight 2, Unreal Tournament, and Counterstrike all day without a fuss. I'd bring an external keyboard and mouse with me and have a great time playing and enjoyed having less to pack up and lug around . I was LANing with a laptop before anyone thought about Laptops being useful for gaming....just wish I had found a way to make money off of it. The Laptop itself is circa 2000. And when the Inspiron 8000 came out with GeForce2 Go graphics, the guys that organized the local LAN party started bringing their Laptops to play on.

Anything big enough for a D810 will easily accommodate a D820 since it has a smaller footprint.

Personally, I use a Targus Sportpac (I think it's called). The thing I like about it is that it's like a rucksack in that it's kind of soft on the outside and compesses down when not fully loaded. I'll be traveling to Chicago this weekend and will be taking it with me. We'll see how the weight affects me while traversing an airport.

Just a quick update, I ordered a sleeve for the D820 from sfbags.com.

I'll let you guys know how it fits/works when it arrives.

It came in the mail yesterday. It fits the D820 like a glove. For anyone interested in a sleeve, I definitely would recommend this sleeve. On the site, the sleeve picture doesn't do it justice. The material that it's made out of is a lot more durable than the it looks in the picture, and it has a thick layer of padding around the whole sleeve. There is also a pocket along the backside to put the power brick in.

I got the sleeve since I plan on putting the sleeve in my normal backpack.
