Yeah, I saw that thread. If you look at the lid without the shield, there is nothing to light the shield up. Now if you cut out the Dell logo part so that the light from LCD shining through then it will light up in that spot - not advisable though.

haha, yea that's why i was so perplexed at how it worked earlier.

Beside, the XPS logos on both side of the lid light up because of LED modules underneath. My incoming XPS lid for my 9300 will have these modules removed so that backlight from the LCD shinning through. I think it will be pinkish white color.

Well assuming this works on a 1710 (not sure) my thought was to do a totally black on see through overhead sheet that had blank areas in the shape of flames. Put that on the red 1710 so the red showing through did so through the flame cutouts. Kind of odd I know, but that was my idea.

And Doc - I almost woke people up laughing at the bsod

I'd like a pic of an Akira-class ship as an insert, but never been able to find one at a high enough resolution.
