Call of Duty runs superbly, with alittle slowdown in the first 'Stalingrad" mission.

When I played the Halo demo, the frame rates were abit dissappointing but tolerable.

Congrats on the new lappy!!

Halo was VERY poorly made for PC's.. even with my 4780 (3.0ghz 1gig ddr) it still runs sluggish sometimes.. hopefully after about 5 gens of patches itll work ok.. i cant run halo at anything higher than 860x900 (something like that) otherwise the mouse is so choppy you cant move.. it plays "OK", but not good.. not really worth playin on a pc if you have an xbox..but i no longer have a choice.. i sold my xbox to aford my laptop.. nuts :-(

well my laptopp will be a 3.2 1gb ram...

hopefully it wont be too bad...

if it doesnt play well on those specs what DOES it play well on?

I assure you they will run wonderfully. COD runs beautifully at 1600x1200 with highest quality settings on the lappy in my sig with no OCing.

will having just a 5400 rpm hdd slow down game play?
NO, it won't slow game play, but it may slow the loading of levels slightly, definitely not by much though.

You wont have a problem with COD - its running smooth on a dell 8600 Centrino with the 32MB nvidia 5200 go !!

That game is VERy well made indeed...kudos!!

Yes, I play Halo every day and it's wonderful. I do have to add '-use14' to my command line for the pixel shader effects, but it looks pretty damn good.

I play it at 1152x864, most everything turned on, and get mid-20s to mid-30s in FPS. Not wonderful, but not bad. Of course FPS will go up dramatically with various options disabled.

I also play Desert Combat (BF 1942 mod) as well, and it looks *great.* You will, of course, need to get over the ubiquitous image shifting inherent in laptop gaming (due to the fast action and slow monitor response rate) but it's most definitely playable.

Nwn??

I think it's hysterical that AW sells NWN with their own laptops, since the game will not function properly out of the box with the ATI 9600 card. Neither will the newer Knights of the Old Republic. You'll have to take hardware acceleration down a notch - or you might get away with disabling the hardware cursor in game - or you'll face intermittent lockups. With the workaround in place, the cursor will flash and frame rates will suffer. Grrr.

That said, I'm playing both KotOR and NWN anyway. The new Hordes expansion for NWN is a lot of fun. But ATI or AW or maybe even Bioware should get on the ball with a fix. Alledgedly the Omega drivers improve this but I got tired of playing beta tester. I just think its funny that AW claims to test so thoroughly, and you can buy stuff on their own site that doesn't quite work.

how did you get nwn to work? form other posts it seems no one has had success.

I went into the advanced tab of display settings, went to the troubleshooting tab in the ATI-specific stuff, and moved the "acceleration" slider one position to the left. This will cause a degradation in performance, but it turns off some of the hardware-cursor functionality that disagrees with the NWN engine.

Others have claimed to resolve this in other (better) ways - ie. SmartGart, Omega drivers, new AW drivers, and or in-game settings, but this is the only thing that's worked for me. Good luck!

Age of Mythology has the exact same problem (and unsatisfying fix) with 7.95 video drivers from AW. But it works fine with 7.91 or Omegas.
