E1505 Advice

Hey guys,

This is my first post on this forum, so I am looking for some advice. I am about to purchase an e1505 with the following configuration and price:

Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2500
15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio
Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
3Yr Ltd Warr,At-Home Service, and HW Warr Support plus Nights and Weekends

All for the grand total of $1755.00 with the $750 off coupon.

Is there anything else I should add? Or is there anything that is raising the price that I might not necessarily need? Am I buying the right computer? It's almost like I have buyer's remorse before I even purchase it! Any advice that anyone is willing to give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You are paying too much for a nongamer laptop. Only gamers I think should pay for specs maxed out to limit.

Check for other coupons. I was able to use three at least when I made my system.

To save money, I really regret not doing this, you should buy the smallest HD they offer and then get a nice shiney 7200 RPM drive off of newegg or some other retailer.

How important is gaming to you? Because right now, the best card we can fit in our E1505 is the standard x1400 which isnt the best card out right now. You might want to consider the e1705, because you *should* be able to fit a 7800 GTX or even a 7900 GTX in there

Yeah, I sorta regret it now, I think I can still return it but, I think I'm sorta lazy. Besides I already have a nice case that would NEVER be able to carry a E1705.

Best of luck!

I am wanting a laptop that has good gaming capabilities, for non-XPS prices. I looked at the e1705, but the wait is almost 2 months. The M140 doesn't offer anything but onboard graphics. Any other suggestions for laptops if not the 1505? Is it a wise investment to pay for the Hardware Warrant/Accidental Damage Protection? Also, where can I find more coupons to apply to my cart other than this forum?

search for coupons on google. Search for Dell Coupons...go through the links you might find something not posted here, also try ebay same search. I bought a 35$ coupon for .98 cents...just gotta look. Everyone says that the x1400 ain't that great...i just played CS:S yesterday and didn't lag once...I dunno maybe it's not as graphic intensive as I thought it was?

I would also recommend a smaller hard drive with a faster RPM. You can always burn DVDs to save room, and with a dual core machine the hard drive speed can become a bottleneck.

cheesyatosu - I actually got your configuration and had $1476.42 in the price tag.

You should try using the 34% e-value code.

If you want to trim down the prices I suggest that you remove unnecessary things like the Wide screen SXGA+ with trulife, truelife AFAIK adds only a glossy filter to your laptop, might also be annoying since ive heard it adds a "reflection" of some sort like your infront of a mirror.

The T2500 isn't exactly needed.. the T2300 is almost the same as the T2500 with a roughly 300mhz difference it is also enough to do virtually any task and gaming -- a stronger gpu is what you need if you want the best gaming.

120GB is way off, you should just purchase a 40gb since I believe you won't be able to eat up all the 120gb space. Remember -- you can delete files, or burn them to dvds thats gonna save alot of space. Or better, if you need a larger hdd, purchase them in another shop its much more cheaper I think.

3 years warranty isn't needed ;O I think 1 year should be enough since in the next years there will be newer models and its much more cheaper and better than the E1505.

With those trimmed down, I think you can have the E1505 with just $917 -- which is what I am going to purchase soon.

Well if you got time to wait they are supposedly going to drop prices on the Core Duo processors and the end of May.
Don't expect to have a big price drop on intel core duo processors when you are buying them from dell because they buy them for almost production price from intel. On the other hand the amd turion x2 is at the door so it would be interesting to see what will happen...
You should have gone for the 80 gig 5400rpm and paid 1300

Thanks for everyone's input. I finally purchased my new laptop, and it's in the Boxing process right now. I'm excited to get it! But here are the specs that I ended up with:
Intel Core Duoprocessor T2500 (2MB/2GHz/667MHz)
15.4 Inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WSXGA+
1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory
80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
4-Year Premium Solution Package

And I paid $1590 total for it. Much better than the original $1755.00. Again, thanks for your help for a noobie!

Good stuff.

Just bought the same computer except with 512 MB RAM (adding 2GB later), 100GB 7200rpm HD, audigy sound card and 3 year warranty (would have gotten complete care but computer going to Fl) for $1344 including taxes.

Hope we both get good screens.

What is the deal with the screens? Is it a guessing game as to the quality when it arrives? What is the sparkle that I've been reading about?
Some have bad light leakage. Most probably have a little that isn't very noticeable unless you look for it.

I use a lot of dark backgrounds so I'm really hoping I get one with minimal leakage. But for the price I can live with some...

I've heard of sparkle but never seen it so can't comment. My friend has a 9300 that he says has it. If what he showed me is the dreaded sparkle, it won't bother me.
