128MB Radeon 9600
DVD Software
Word Perfect Office Suite 12
Operating System CD
24X CD RW/DVD Combo DriveA

Well if your looking to future proof it a little, thats not the laptop for you. Look at the 1st generation of the Dell 6000, with the x300 64mb or 128mb video card. Also has a DVD Burner, faster Ram...etc.

That's a three year old lappy...not a horrible deal but I'd give no more than $500 for that one.

I paid 750 for mine in my sig in Dec, I needed a laptop with the lagacy ports. I also got a 2 year warranty, faster RPM HD, WUXGA Screen, 4x DVD Burner, and 1 Gig of ram for that much. I would go with the 6000D, and make sure you get a warranty, with a dell laptop, your probably going to need it.

Thanks one and all. I'm still drowning in all the different models, options, specs but your advice helps me focus. It seems 6000D is what I should look at.

WOW! How can anyone keep up with all of Dell's mod.#'s? As for buying on eBay. This will be my first laptop so I want/need support. It's my understanding that repairs on laptops are expensive so I want warranty coverage. I suspect I will keep this laptop for several years. Any more thoughts or advice?

If your looking to buy a laptop and keep if for several years, how much you willing to pay? That would be the deciding factor on which way to steer you.

I intend to spend less than $1000. If I buy a Dell, I have no problem with the Outlet Store> Refurb. or Scratch n Dent.

That's great, but it is better to get a newer model any day, even it you do have to spend a little bit more. I wouldn't advise buying old technology, finding support will be a bit tougher.

Might try to find a deal for a Inspiron E1505 with a 2 or 3 year warranty for 1k. You will probably need to track down a coupon deal to boost the specs a little bit.
