/stares at Dell 8600 that's 5 days old and thinks about a 9700...

The key phrase on that chart is at the top left: "These will be released end of the month for sale."

The question is...which month?

The specs are interesting, but it seems that the only notable difference between the two notebooks is the option of an ATI 9800 in the XPS. That doesn't make sense, especially when you consider that the jump between the 8500 and 8600 was centered around a new, improved processor in addition to the better video card. Also, it's disappointing that these models apparently don't have a true port replicator option. Those USB docks are a poor substitute. Kinda makes me feel a lot better about my 8600 purchase. I'd feel even better if we can upgrade the 8600 to the improved ATI cards...anyone know if that's possible?

On the other hand, I do like the beefy desktop processors in these new notebooks. I wonder what the cooling systems are like???
