9750: Overclocking the FX-60?

Does anyone have a link to a reliable program that can overclock the FX-60? I would probably not push it past 2.8Ghz, which is still incredible (Dual FX-57) . If anyone has actually accomplished this I'd love the input!

Also, would the 9750 still be able to handle the extra heat dissapation needed? With my laptop cooler, the only thing that gets hot is the video card in front because it does not have an extra fan under it, but at least it is up off the table.

RMclock is a great utility for overclocking and power management. i wouldnt try OCing a $1000 cpu, but that's my conservative nature.

my temps are already a bit too high since the fx-60 has so little room and so little cooling.

Thanks Paz, that is good advice since this is still a "laptop." How much extra heat can going up 200mhz on a dual core put out though? I mean, for normal use it downclocks itself to 1.2 (dual), and during gaming when it is actually at 2.6 the entire time, I just hit the Fn-F2 to put the fans on full.

I see no need to overclock now though- you can max out b2f, hl2, call of duty 2 (at least the demo), and quake 4 (demo) with this piece of work. Video card upgrades will probably keep me away from overclocking, but it might be nice to get to at least FX-62 speed for Vista times here in about 8 months.

yeah...actually after setting RMclock and taking a log my temps arent as bad as i thought. i have it at 1.6ghz for daily use and 2.6ghz for gaming. after a long session of Oblivion maxed settings and AF/HDR my CPU was only around 58-62. GPU was pretty cooked...but the fx-60 doesnt seem to break a sweat.

it's an unreal cpu to have in a laptop! nice choice

since i have it in my lap most of the time i think i'll get one of those little laptop coolers just to keep it propped up off the fans.

So do you think 2.8 is feasible if the fans are maxed out? I agree, the cpu seems to never get hot- if you open up the cpu plate off the bottom, the cooling unit is actually pretty intense. I also agree that the 7800 gets hot when playing a high end game.

This is the laptop cooler that I use- I find that it works very well, but I do not put it on my lap. It cools all of the notebook except for the video card the way I have it set up.

Hello. I noticed your conversation about rmclock.
I too have a 9750. With my temps the way they are I could easily go 200mhz overclock without a problem.
The only problem is that I cannot find which pll to use with the clevo chipset.
I tried some random ones and they did not work.
Since you guys were able to use it I guess you would know which pll to use.

I would appreciate any info

Oogami,
I have downloaded RmClock, but have not actually used it yet, so I cannot help. Hopefully paz can help you.

Okay, using RMClock I noticed the default setup for 2.6Ghz is a 13.0x Mutipler (FID) and the Vcore (VID) is set at 1.350V.
The max settings that the FX-60 allows at 25.0x (FID) and 1.400V (VID).

So somewhere in between there is a workable setting for 2.8Ghz, but I am a novice. Also when I go to make a profile and check "Use P-State Transitions", I can only Add one state- I must be missing something.

So has anyone have a successful combination of FID and VID for overclocking the FX-60? Also, is that all that needs to be done, or is there FSB stuff?

Okay, I used the latest version of RMClock 2.15, and setting the FID at 14x clockes the FX-60 at 2.8Ghz. It ran CS:S perfectly stable, and the max temps reached were 55C after 30 minutes- the FX-60 is rated up to 65C. Turned the fans to full with Fn-F2. The FX-62 runs at 125W, and the FX-60 runs at 110W, so there can only really be about 10% more heat from what I can reason, and the CPU cooling on the Sager 9750 is pretty impressive.

So, you can overclock this if you want FX-62 speeds if anyone needs a little extra CPU kick with the FX-60.
