Is the 7900GS that much better?

Thread Starter
I'm just wondernig about how much better the 7900 GS is going to be compared to the 7800 go.

Currently I have a E1705 with a 7800 go that can get 3300 ish in 3dmark06 overclocked with 1.2 volt mod.

I also have a XPS M170 with 7800 gtx which gets about 3500 stock and 3750ish over clocked.

People say a 7900gs is not going to be faster than a 7800gtx stock, where does it place the 7900gs into? Is it that much better than a 7800go, is it even worth an uprade?

should be about 10% faster is my understanding

It's not much better at stock, but it will overclock loads more than the 7800 series due to the 90nm process.

Its a about as fast as the 7800GTX go, its far better than the 7800go that dell offers (massively underclocked), but about 10-20% faster than the 7800go that for instance sager offers

question, can we get one for our I9400s?

that would be a nice upgrade from Dell, then I could sell my 7800 Go...

doesn't the bios support that card now? So yeah I would only imagine you should have no problems, the only question have for you is it worth it money wise, like how much more is the 7900 GTX going to cost? or What does a 7800 GTX in comparison, it might be the same price or around that. And if they were the same price, I'd definately say get the 7800 GTX over the 7900 GS.

the 7800GTX requires soldering to remove a post and breaking off some plastic parts, while the 7900GTX should fit in without hardware modifications

Yeah for sure get the 7900 GTX, i was just sugessting that more then likely that the 7800 GTX and the 7900 GS would fall into the same price Category and therefore if it was me I would go through the process to install a 7800 GTX over a 7900 GS.
