Well i'm looking for a laptop i want to know what YOU suggest is the best gaming laptop right now. I want this laptop to play BF2 like nothing.

And now what would be the best gaming laptop if my budget were about $2,500

And what if it were $4,000 what would be best.

GB = gigabyte lan. Common ethernet ports are 10/100, Gigabyte are 10/100/1000. Just another 'future proof' type thing.

He means a gigabit capable network card.

uhh not really since 10GB Nics are avalible and will be more common in the near future. my entire house is 1000Mbit and G WIFI ONLY. if you have lots of 100mbit clients on a 1000mbit network it will kill the speed of the whole network. thats why alot of colleges and universities are only allowing 1000mbit NIC laptops. i remember a post on here a while back because someone needed a laptop with a GB Nic for his technical college.

By ethernet port, I meant cards in desktops and laptops, not ports provided in buildings. Poor choice of words, I know.

It still has nothing to do with future proofing really, its just the added advantage of being able to transfer things faster over your home network.

And yes, didn't think of that. I never connect to my home network by wires anymore, so I'm forgiven...

I dont think that the 1710 is worth buying just yet. Its way too expensive (in my opinion) and not that much of an upgrade compared to the m170 (wich you can get now for less than 2 grand)

$4,000 on a laptop? C'mon dude, that's a lot of money just to play a game. $4,000 is a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot of money. When you get older and are scrapping up pennies to pay the rent, you will realize this.

If you really want a good gaming cpu, get a desktop pc. You can get a damn good rig for like $800. Then spend $900 or whatever for a portable computer. I wanted something for gaming as well and got a $1100 Dell E1505. The other laptops just don't make sense. What's the point in a laptop if it's going to be heavy as hell, heat up like no other, and cost $4,000? Do you really need to play BF2 in the library or the coffee shop with super graphics?

Just a thought

i was thinking of going wireless at the time of getting a gigabit switch but

2.1MB/s wireless (on a good day like 5 ft from the router) or the MAX speed of your HDD which is probalby around 45-70MB depending on what kind of HDD's (mine are in raid) i would take the 70MB/s over 2.1MB/s anyday. hell i would even take the 12MB/s that 100Mbit provides over wireless
