why sub par components?

the x1600 is so slow, apple trying to get into the intel market youd think theyd use a decent video card like a 6800 or something at least then you could dual boot and play games

I dont think the X1600 is considered subpar, The X1600 is good for most things (as far as I know) and remember, the macbook is not intended to be a gaming machine, its a machine that can play games.

Also the X1600 is underclocked if im not mistaken, this was done to reduce heat output (so your balls dont catch fire).

And as far as I know the X1600 is the same one other brands are using.. so no complains there.

Lol, silly billy. The Macbook with the x1600 get's simialir benhcies to my friends clevo d900 p4 with a 6800.

And the x1600 uses like a quarter of the power. So... you are wrong.

They arent even aiming at gamers anyway.

The x1600 is hardly sub par. It is a first class GPU that supports the latest DX and shader models and is x16 PCI-E. It does a great job even underclocked, providing smooth fast graphics without excessive heat.

x1600 is as good as you can get in a thin & light form factor, which the 15.4" certainly fits into. (hell, even the 17" deserves that title...it weighs as about the same as most 15.4" Windows machines).

This is true for Apple, and this is true for windows (Acer 8204)

The x1600 and the 6800go are roughly the SAME performance: around 4000 3Dmark05 depending on the implementation and clockspeed. The x1600 is runs cooler and uses less power than the 6800.

The thermal specs for Nvidia go68/78/7900 chips is probably too great to ever be put into a 1" thick Apple design and do not meet Apple's noise level requirements.

Personally, I think ATI cards have better looking image quality 2D & 3D, but I prefer the more robust and frequent driver releases from Nvidia. Nvidia is way ahead on linux support which is important to me on a windows laptop and of zero concern to me with a Mac.

so, a bit of a tangent here, but is anyone else sick of the GPU makers being a generation behind in manufacturing process and hence power usage?
