tell me about your exp with nvidia

as i´m fed up with ati-bull**** i will go with the 5700 when it´s released.
problem is, i don´t have any experience with the current nvidia cards, so i would like all those that have one to tell me about theirs.
biggest question is: how do all the games run?
but i would also like to know about other things, like tv-out and such.

Hi harkon,

I have the nvidia 5600 & I have to say I'm pretty unimpressed. So far I have loaded MOH, COD & Freedom Fighters and I get some stuttering in all three games when the action hots up. The benchmarks are also low compared to the ATI numbers I have seen on this site (3dmark 2350, Aquamark3 11,500). I changed drivers from the pre-installed 44.87's to Thor's modded 53.03's which improved the in game graphics a lot, but the games still stutter - any ideas anyone??

Interestingly, by switching to Thor's drivers my Aquamark score increased by 6,000 but my 3dmark score decreased by 100.

MOH is hardly the most demanding game around and I would have expected it to run smoothly on a system of this spec. I am also disappointed with a 3dmark score of 2250 (53.03's)!!!!

Any advice greatly appreciated

Well, all I can say is, every review that I've seen that puts the current ATI up against the current Nvidia mobile product has ATI whipping butt big time. Bar none.

I can't imagine why anyone would go with a (current) Nvidia because of this.

Now, that might well change as new cards come out, as it always does.

But, the neat thing is, we can all upgrade as needed.

yes, that is in games. but if you are like me, and need to use MAYA, and other such programs, you will quickly find that ati are whipped seriously by nvidia everytime. and most often things wont even run at all on the ati.
and that is maybe why some people choose the nvidia.

nvidia sucks balls those mother****ers ****ed my mother****ing computer up cause of the ****ing card! ati ****ing owns nvidia harkon you know nvidia has cheated before in making card they stole info from ati which makes them big but they aint. My ati owns i am gonna buy 256mb one for the new comp i am building.

OK so I guess 2pac likes ATI!

I also like ATI I love the AIW cards for desktops thats All I will buy they have so much functionality. I Wish my laptop had a composit in connector that would be sweet! But I still perefer the ATI to the Nvidia.

English is obviously your second language, since I can't understand half of what you intended to post.

Anyway, my NVIDIA works fine in my AW. I play MOH and I don't get any stuttering, the rest of my games rung fine. And since I own both of these cards, one being the ATI (desktop version) I can tell you that both have their issues. The NVIDIA has a wonderfully stable driver set, and slightly less performance, whereas the ATI has lousy drivers unless I use someone other than the vendor to supply them, like "Omega."

As for the genius quoted above, I doubt that an NVIDIA card messed up your computer, based on your comments I can be %100 sure it was operator error. Incidentally, I suggest you stay in school.

Your runing maya on a laptop? ME TOO...

heh

I have the nVidia hardware and I have no problem with this card (after alittle adjusting). The screen looked washed out but I resolved this with the Adobe Gamma Loader.

Games run all fine, the only reason why CoD would stutter is because the wireless card should be off position playing.

i can cope with slightly less performance, when the other alternative is a card that absolutely does not work in maya.
and yes, i do use maya on this computer. besides having the ATI right now, it will probably run perfect when i get the nvidia.

why is it that some report that their nvidia really cant run any game fast enough. is that all just bull****?

Well seeing how I was mentioned here, I figure I should say something:

First off there is no telling if there is even going to be a 256MB ATi9700M at all. Second a lot of washout issues and system stability on these computers only really started to happen with them adding the ATi card. I have never had overheating problems with my NV card, not even when I OC.

The NV card (5600 go) sucks in any DX9 app. Its DX8 may not be stellar either. However any OpenGL game will be a lot better on a NV card. A lot of the benchmark numbers out there for the NV5600Go are with the crapy old drivers, not the newer ones that actually get something out of these cards. Usually the NV drivers are tons better in stability and game support. There are not much details out about the 5700go, it will prolly perform close to the normal desktop 5700, and they are making a 5700go Ultra as well so who knows how they will do. If the 5700go act like the desktop cards, then they will be better than the new ATi9700M cards.

for the 53.03 drivers for the 51m: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/thor1182/home/53.zip

They are makeing a Ultra 5700 to go???? When?
I have the much bashed 5200go (53.03 driver) and it runs the follwing games at med to high rez.(on SXGA) Can't speak for UXGA or SXGA+
:

Call of Duty
Max Payne II
SimCity 4
FS 2004
MOH
GTA Vice City
Madden 2003
Tiger Wood 2003
and the game versions prior to most above.

The lappy runs cool, fan rarly comes on.
The 5700U for the desktop is my next card!

On PAPER, in certain game benchmarks (none of which I play) the ATI is "better" but I don't pay much attention to "benchmark scores' and I have had driver issues in the past with ATI as well there are a few threads with issues from the 9600 mobile. I read none from the 5650 except heat issues. But all the top end cards will create heat when chasing the FPS.! It's mostly about the drivers for me.
The difference in FPS is numbers after 70 anyway. I run most games fto my satisfaction at a mininum of 30-40.

dont feed the troll!

EDIT:
and just to not distroy this thread, and turn it into some strange trolling-party, i would like to ask all of you nvidiapeople how many fps you get in COD, if you play it in 1600x1200 with no antialiasing and maxed everything?
Tell me the command to check that and I will post if for ya!

have not memorized it, so i cant tell you. currently at my girlfriends old computer so i cant check it out either. sorry=(
but as i do not fancy fps very much (just did not come up with anything else) you can aswell just tell me if it runs smooth, or not. and maybe you can tell me what settings you have, that you feel you can play the game perfectly with.
oh. and then i say good night. for it´s in the middle of the night here in sweden.
god natt

2pac: please either stay in school, or go back to school because you need some help still. ATi has only recently moved to the faster GPU maker, and won't stay there. Its inevitabl that NV will take it back, then ATi will reclaim it...so on and so on.

NV has so much better driver support than ATi does. System stability and game support is usally best with NV, and if they messed somehting up, htey are really god at fixing it quickly. ATi, not so much.

I agree with TIme-Pilot, NV messed up your ocmputer becuase of stupid user erros, not becuase of NV. And last time I checked, this was a computer forum, not some hip ganster wannabe's forum.
