Please help (TM 8204)

Excuse my english.

Here goes:

I am trying to do a clean install on my TM 8204, but i am having problems with that driver that is called "AMT" i have found it along all the other drivers on Acer European driverupdate-page.
I have no idea what it is for, there is no install file i it, so i guess i have to update something and then point it to the folder where the "inf" files are, but i tryed almost everything but nothing works with them, what are they fore and how do i install it?? ( i think it is something with the dual processor)

Also if someone would be so kind to tell me what fixes i should do to make everything go smooth i have so far found:

Eeprom-fix (is that needed)

Procedure to modify DMI Information (is that needed)

And last a regestry-fix i found inhere from Falafel about some USB thing (is that needed)

On my recoveryDVD i made from my first install i have also found to files called "Hotfix2" and "Hotfix3" does anyone know what they are for and should i run them.

Another problem i have had and maybe other have some solution for, is pauses in my videofiles even small ones also in DOOM3 which is the only game i have installed, i have problems with small pauses all the time, very annoying. Acer is no help, there solution to eveything, is "Reinstall".
Everything is updated, Catalystdriver, DirectX, Doom3 1.3 Patch, nothing helps, i have even tryed Omega drivers, no better there. It is like there is small pauses every 5-10 sec. even in very small videofiles the small pauses is there all the time, has also tryed different players and codecs.

This problem is why i am trying reinstall (after talking to Acer) but i would like to try a clean install instead, but if someone knows a solution to the "Pause" problem please let me know, i have a felling it is software related, because problem does not occure on a newly installed system with all Acer software on.

I hope someone can help me with some of my questions.

The "AMT" question and "Fixes" is very important to me.

The "pause" seems to be a gfx driver issue. Try installing the Omega Drivers and see if it disappears?

It is the same with the Omega-drivers.

I didn't get a direct pause in 3D. More of a "stutter". Never had any trouble in video though.

Maybe the "Acer Magic Self Repair" system will kick in and remove the problem :-) No seriously. I seem to remember another person having this problem on this forum, but I can't remember the solution. I’ll have a look.

Yep, been a little busy to visit the forum in awhile... I had the stutter with every driver version beyond the stock driver, which is what I'm using now. This includes the Omega drivers (in fact, if I recall, it started with them).

When the stutter occured, an ATI process would show a spike in activity in Task Manager. I'm not sure which process... I never looked into it further because I'm happy with the performance of the stock drivers.

I'd open Task Manager, do some stuff, and note which ATI process is spiking. Then, that can be communicated to Acer/ATI... Personally, I'm wondering what I've installed that's conflicting with something in the driver; I can't imagine that more people wouldn't be complaining about the problem. With mine, it was more than just annoying; it made the system unusable.

Yea. It must be a software problem/conflict since a different driver solves the problem.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply´s it is nice to know that i am not alone with this.

I have now tryed to reinstall again with the Acer recoveryDVD and that seems to do the trick, but it comes back on and off as soon as i start to install other programmes on the machine (Office etc.) i am sure it is a software issue, i would just be a little more calm if Acer told me they knew what i was talking about.

I would still appriciate if anyone could tell me exactly how to do a clean install what fixes to use and so on, and also how i am supposed to use that AMT driver, even Acer cant tell me that, nice support, NOT.

I have read elsewhere that ATI would make there Mobile-drivers to support the X1600 card (others as well) does anyone know anything about that.

I have tryed all that mobilemodding tools, but i cant get it to work.

See
ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/notebook/tra...iver/index.txt
telling you
amt.zip: Intel AMT Driver 1.1.24.0

I haven't a clue what AMT is, but I given the fact that it is the only inexplicable difference with the 8100 series, it must be soemthing related to dula core.
Probably the zip has only some .INF files and afew other files in it. Unpack it, right click the INF files and choose install, after this let the device manager detect new devices, and search for it on your HD (including the place where you unpacked the file). It'll find the driver and do whatever is needed.
If it doesn't come up with anything new, you could try update driver on the processor, nomeric processor, etc. until you find the device(s) for which the drivers were intended.

Cheers

If you oepn the two hotfix files with notepad you'll probably find that they are empty.
I guess you are talking about files in a directory called PATCH, none of which should be directly relevant for your machine; they are only relevant in case of a recovery to factory condition.
(Noted exceptions, there are a few files which are actually used in Windows e.g. ery.exe (in muy case), which contains eRecovery.

AMT is "Active Management Technology". I'm pretty sure it's Intel's way of having the NIC drivers diagnose any problems with the wired Ethernet. I havent' seen any kind of interface, nor have I found anything worth a darn on Intel's site in the way of documentation.

Hi all, thanks for the replys, but i have dropped the idea of a clean install, it seems to be too diffecult, at least for me, so i used my recoveryDVD and tweaked a little and for now i am happy.

for that stutter just kill the ATIevxx(somthing along that line) in the task manager.

Thanks, i will try that i thought i was gone until last night, it came again, very annoying, next time i will try what you say.
I was suspecting that i might be a heat problem and was going to call Acer about monday, but i might wait and see until next time, now.

Thanks again, if anybody got an idea or a lasting solution to this stutter problem wich seems to be coming and going at least on my laptop please let me know about it.
