After my earlier post, I've been doing some digging to find out which company has been making the Acer Ferrari laptops, and I've found the answer. Until now, ALL of the Acer Ferrari models have been sourced from Quanta. I've been unable to find out so far who makes the TravelMate 8200 series - does anybody know? I'm guessing it is probably Quanta again, but it'd be nice to know who will be making the Ferrari 5000. Also, each of the Ferrari models has been a mirror of an existing Acer product. The Acer Ferrari 3000 series was identical to the Acer Aspire 1450 series. The Ferrari 4000 was based on the TravelMate 8100, but with an AMD CPU instead of an Intel one. The Ferrari 5000 is fairly obviously based on the TravelMate 8200 series. This begs the question - since the Ferrari 1000 appears to be a completely new model, will there be an Aspire / TravelMate mirror of this design launched soon as well?

Mark Webber - Australian driver for Williams
Willi Weber - Driver manager for Michael Schumacher, and until recently Ralf Schumacher as well

You are correct with my confusion. Guy's at work always call Mark Webber "Will He Webber" as in will he ever win a race.

Hahah - I like it. Webber was having a damned good race until his car let him down...

Strange, I have no issues with it. I had to upgrade a few pieces of software...and wait for others, but right now everything works with my machine. However, back in mid 05, that was another story. As of Jan 06, everything is working perfectly.
I had to wait for Alcohol 120%. This was the last piece I needed.
I had to wait for X-Fi drivers (bastards said it'd have x64 drivers on release; it was a month late)
my AV software had to be upgraded to SAV Corporate 10. I've since moved to Avast 4! due to my disliking that SAV used a hell of a lot of RAM.

As far as VPN, that's not something I've messed with. I was going to post something, but then realized I was thinking of VNC.

I hope the will use the new nforce4 Mobile chipset and a Geforce Go 7600, 7800 or 7900GS video card.

I have been running it since last April. Drivers has always been a big problem. I wish Sager had at least finished the x64 drivers. They made one update after they released and since then nothing else. It is no wonder so many people have a bad taste in their mouth.

How well did VNC work under x64?

Its not the operating system thats the problem. Its the laziness of the software industry .

I disagree, their compatibility layer is not all that compatible. Also, the drivers have worked fine, but xp64 decided to lose the audio ones each time it shut down/rebooted. Then there's the crap with changing the size of the page file (namely, windows doesn't always honor it), but xp has the same problem so that is just windows stupidness.

I have never had the audio problems on shut down/reboot... maybe your copy of it is damaged in some way or maybe Bill Gates has it out for you...

Not all that compatible with what. I have had zero problems with compatibility, other than things that require drivers, i.e. VPN

I use TightVNC; works perfectly.

No issues with audio drivers on X64's part. Just Creative Labs ineptitude.

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone...but it's nowhere near as bad as it was a year ago. And, that's not MS's fault, necessarily. Usually it's the 3rd party that are slacking.

I have a program that takes a proprietary file format and converts it to a text file. Also, zonealarm is a no go, and virtual cd has had issues as well. I think there were others but I've forgotten.
Like I said, I dont think its the OS, i thinks its the software people not working fast enough. There are lots of programs that do work on XP 64 where others dont. For example, you can use a program called FantomDVD in place of Virtual CD and there are internet safety softwares that work on XP 64 .... you just gotta look and find the ones that want your business the most and are keeping up with Microsoft.

Can anyone give a little info on the processor that will be in the the smaller model? I am not farmiliar with AMD much...
It is the same processor family in *both* models, although there's no info yet on which *specific* processors will be used in either model.

The family is the AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile, which is the first 64-bit dual core processor intended for mobile use. Think of it as Intel's Core Duo, but 64-bit instead of 32-bit.

So far, (very) early previews have suggested Core Duo is faster and has better power consumption when the processor is busy, but Turion 64 X2 Mobile has better power consumption at idle (and obviously, the advantage of 64-bit support whenever Windows Vista *finally* ships - which isn't a Vista requirement, but is likely to be worthwhile).

The processor used in the Ferrari 500x is the Turion X2 TL-60 @ 2.0 GHz.
The processor used in the Ferrari 100x is the Turion X2 TL-50 @ 1.6 GHz.

By the way, for a confirmation that this is basically a TravelMate 8204WLMI with a few changes (AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor, HDMI w/ HDCP port, and 160GB HDD are all I know for sure so far), compare the following two images:
