what is it w/ the demo???!!! i hate it! love the gameplay but the coding is HORRENDOUS!!! ive got 2gb of ram and good processor and a good vid. card and it still stops every couple of seconds!!! WHATS UP WITH THIS!!! is it my comp. or is it the demo?!?!
You're lucky your's just stops every couple of seconds. I tried it on mine and in the open areas I was getting less than 10fps. For a good amount of time, just staring out into the city, I was getting 5 fps, without anything going on. I have everything set to low and the resolution was running at 800x600. It is the lowest framerates I have ever experienced on this pc.

9300-1.86ghz,6800go,1gb ram

I think the game is just a hog of a game. It looks like complete trash on low. The textures sucks. I don't know how this would be playable on lower end cards. It's funny when you compare this to the Source engine. The Source engine just kills it because it will actually allow you to play with a pretty low end pc.

I have been getting the feeling that pc gaming may be a waste when I could get an xbox 360 and be able to play this game and oblivion so much better.

This is not a conversion from 360 .... This game was made for PC and Xbox.

Hmm, that's strange.

My PC REALLY chugs when first loading up a level...but after it catches up, it works fine.

My PC:
AMD Athlon 2500+
Radeon 9800PRO 256mb
512mb of ram (I'm not even sure if that meets the minimum ram!)

But I have everything turned down...sooo...

Wow, I have everything on low and it is just a terrible framerate. I'll see if what the talk is when more people try it. It looks just terrible on low.

1080 is doable on our systems ints the 720p that seems like the harder sell here.

correct me if I am wrong, but most will claim 1080i is more of a tax on FPS. Check out the ign review of tomb raider. They confirmed 1080i chugs more than 720p. If you multiply 1920 by 540 (1080i) it will be bigger than 1280 by 768. Though 720p is considered "better" because its "smoother" 1080i is really a better and higher res picture..especially with slow moving games or games that will run at 30fps.

Im still m messimg with it at higher resolutions but it seems to run good at this for me with the m170 in sig.

i really wonder if all these xbox games (oblivion, ghost recon) that are bringing all but the fastest computers to the ground are just really badly or that demanding.

Looks like its xbox360 time over here. had no idea GRAW ran so shitty on high end machines. sorry but i'm tired of upgrading for 5fps extra. i just bought a cheapo 1.5ghz PM laptop with intel extrme 2, plays CS 1.6 at 100FPS thats all i need, going to buy a xbox360 in a fews weeks.

Mine works great on my new M170. 1440x900(would try higher, but thats the max I can select) max details but no shadows. It has little effect in the way it looks. No FPS numbers but I say its above 30 FPS. Also turn off EAX. Its enabled for some reason, but our cards do not have the abilty. Also drop sound down one notch. I did not notice any difference, and it should help reduce cpu load.

vengance,

with the setting you mentioned, how did the game look? Graphics really impressive?

reflux smells game bugs.

Everyone remember: it's just a demo. Remember how badly the FEAR demo ran on some hardware (nVidia, in particular, I think)? The final version may have better optimized code.

And, as has been said before, this isn't simply a port of the 360 version of the game. It was built from the ground up for the PC by a different developer, with a different engine and completely different levels.

Seems to run fine on my pc (XPS Gen2 6800 Ultra 256, 2.0 PM, 1GB) with all graphics set to max and 8x AA on 1360x768 res to a 26" LCD HDTV. Only problem is, screen freezes after so much time in gameplay. Seems like the game is still running but the screen is frozen. Looks pretty good on the LCD but nothing fancy. HDR is nice, that's about it. Waiting for Crysis!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't games that are written for mutiple systems share common code (to some extent). I've never, ever heard of a game that was optimzed for two systems separatly. It just isn't economical for the game company. That's why games written for specific systems usually tend to look better. they have been optimized for that system and it's capabilities. The good thing about the xbox360 is that M$ made it so games can be ported easier between pc and xbox360, but it is still that..a port. Again, I could be wrong, but as a developer myself, it's always best to reuse code as much as possible. I would think game designers would do the same. edit: I didn't know they did this:
