Where to get it

Where did you download it from? Is there a link?

thanks djohn

First, I'd like to thank djohn for the help. It worked. Secondly, I'm disappointed that
dell would mislead me twice after I asked what seemed to be easily verifiable questions.

Check the Dell drivers download section... not sure if it's there for e1505/e1705, but it *is* there for M1710.

wish i wouldve saw this when i customized my laptop. i gave my desktop away when i got my e1505, but i kept my klipsch 2.1's. i really hope this is just a software difference and not really a hardware difference. if someone opened up their laptop, would the soundchip say sound blaster or audigy on it?

I know if this had been available when I ordered mine, I would have gotten it for sure.

Hi !

I just took a look at the Dell Support website and I checked the audio driver available for the Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505.

There is only this driver :

SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio

For the XPS M1710 :

Creative Labs Integrated Audigy invitation
Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio

What it the difference between the two drivers ?

As I understood, the Audigy things is a software, not true ?

If we install the XPS Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD audio driver on our Inspiron 6400/E1505, will this work or not ?

Because me too I forgot to choose the Audigy Sound Blaster option. But I taught to something :
Even if we have the best sound card, if we don't have good speakers ( the makority of laptop speakers are bad, but on the 6400/E1505, they are pretty good .. if we stay in the laptop world ), this will be useless becaue speakers can't do want the sound card ( which is more high-end than the speakers ) wants to do...

Well, difficult to understand, but try

But it can be good to have the Audigy options. That's why, if it's not a hardware upgrade, want to upgrade or buy the application.

Thank you.

i gotta say, i was somewhat disappointed with the E1505 speakers, they pale in comparison to those on my i9100 (of course, that computer has a subwoofer built into the battery, but i digress..). but yeah, they are pretty good compared to most laptops.

The Audigy upgrade will also enable EAX effects and virtual surround for headphones... so it's not completely useless (though I see the point...).

I think it *is* possible to download the M1710 drivers on your e1505. Be prepared to buy a key or similar from Creative, though.... it won't work automatically.

Can't hurt to try... and I think the actual sound chip is identical on e1510 and M1710...

I didn't see this option when I ordered mine, but per Ghost26's post I downloaded the Audigy drivers for XPS M1710, and they installed fine. But I have to pay 19.99 in order to take full advantage of it. My question for those who have it is, is it really worth it?

So I figured, what the hell, why not try it... As far as I can tell, the sound quality isn't really any different, but then again, it's kinda hard to compare two sounds without listening to them back to back. I think the only advantage is that it has low level EAX support along with their usual soundblaster stuff like the CMSS thing and bass boost. Oddly enough, I also havent experienced any cpu drain while using the creative features...

Its not just a "key"

it is an actual creative chip.

So much differing information here, but everything seems to point at it being just software so I'd like to know why you say that irev210.

How can you be so sure? I'm sorry, but the evidence does speak against you.

It says "SW" all over.

it is just software. I have it and its just a basic installer program that you run that converts whatever integrated sound chip you have into their "MB" version.
i just installed the driver off xps page, it installed an updated volume control, and at the bottom of it was the link to "upgrade to audigy" where you pay 20 bucks and are issued a activation key, and a download for the install program. i played a few songs on the notebook speakers and i think it did sound a little better for what it is, you can't really expect much out of laptop speakers. but i think it does sound better, although it could be just power of pursuasion :-) but on my klipsch 2.1's i think that it definitely sounds better.

So, my question is,

If I have this option when I bought,
but I need to format the disk and re-install the system and in oder to get it back,
do I need to install additional driver beside the one "SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio" on Dell webpgage?

If yes, what is it? thanks,

I *think* what you do is download and install the Audigy driver from Dell (it's available from the drivers page, at least for the M1710), and then give it your CD key.

Some have reported that this key comes with their systems. If not, you should probably demand it from Dell.
What I just did when I reformatted was to first install the sigmatel drivers, and then run the creative installer CD (you should have gotten an installer CD if you bought it from Dell). If you bought it from Dell, there should be a key on the back of the CD sleeve.

Hey E1505,
Is the software a firmware upgrade for the onboard sound chip or a Windows Driver replacement for it?
