The Dell the HP is half as good!!!

your comparing a pentium M to a celeron... with a LOWER CLOCK SPEED!!

Even though I absolutely hate Dell, the Dell has better specs at a cheaper price.
Though you may want to look into the Compaq variation of the DV, its usually much cheaper and just missing a few bells and whistles, but the same build quality (They usually use the same chasis, just painted a different color)

Compaq V2000, 14" Brightview, Turion 1.8Ghz (ML-34, 1mb L2), 1x512mb, 80gb 5400rpm, DVDRW DL, B/g WLAN w/ speedbooster, 12 cell battery. Good design (imo).

$848

edited: just noticed that it's BBowermaster's notebook. It's a very good budget notebook, and quite portable, without beeing too small, also light. I saw some recently and I really liked them. If I would buy one today, it would be one notebook to think about, specially because I rarely play games anymore... =\

I have owned a few Dells myself and have seen the dv1000 (friend at school has one) And to be honest.. even though the Dell has a few more options, the dv1000 has a way better lookins screen. Font and colors seem crisper IMHO. To me ALL the Dells I have owned and seen always look way to washed out and not bright enough. Shrug just my opinion.

Well it really depends what you want the laptop for. Are you going to be playing games and stuff? Or would you prefer something just for every day activities? Lastly, how portable do you want the thing. This kinda goes hand-and-hand with how large the screen is ... some people like 12" screens, others refuse to buy anything below 17"

be more specific, everyone uses their laptops in different ways

dell has much better specs! and is cheaper! I have a 630m and its the best notebook i have ever owned, never ever getting a hpcompaq again - there all a heap of junk!

Looks like you’re getting more for your money with the Dell. With Dell having the faster processor and hard drive it makes it real hard to recommend the HP.
sure... between those two (dv1000 and m140), at first glance, i would get the dell. but remember that there are others models as well.

deffinatley the dell, betweek those 2. I would still look at other models though.

Unless you had a HP/Compaq recently, post merger, your opinion is worthless, they're not the same company.

Personally out of the two, I would choose the Dell. Not putting down Hp or nothing, I own a Hp dv 1123ap(centrino instead of celeron) and it is great.
dell all the way, a celeron doesnt really compete with that.

Definately go with the Dell. I have one, and it's great. The screen is awesome, although I know of a lot of Sony models with better screens. However, the faster processor alone makes the Dell a better choice than the HP, without even mentioning the faster hard drive and the better DVD drive (i think), and then throw in the lower price, and it's just unbelievably better.

For the best 14" systems, I'd say look at Sony, but they're a lot more expensive than those two systems. My friend got one with lower specs than mine, and she paid about $2000, and I only paid $1100.
