Ok look, I really want a Laptop as my own personal computer due to their mobility and power. But here is my main questions should I get a laptop for just MS Office, Internet, AIM, Photos, Videos, and Music but that cannot play games and just get a desktop for gaming?

In other words whats the best notebook under $1000 for anything but gaming?

And please I really want specifics. Thanks

I don't game (anymore) but for serious gaming, you would save at least $400 by getting a desktop with the same specs as a laptop. Why should you have a laptop? There's plenty of reasons to have a laptop. If you want just a laptop for everything BUT gaming, there's tons of deals out there for that. All you need is a decent processor and a good amount of RAM. This is what I customized at Dell in 5 minutes: Price Specs Just around your budget. You can bring amount of RAM down (1GB to 512MB) to nudge the battery up (53WHr to 85WHr) without affecting the price. The graphics card isn't some Intel integrated piece of crap either. You can do some light-gaming even. The sound card also isn't some integrated P.O.S. It's a creative audigy. I applied the $300 coupon off this website: http://www.onlinecomputercoupons.com/ That's my 2 cents. P.S. I estimated the shipping costs for some random zipcode (33125) in Miami, FL.

Just play around with the customizations. You'll hit it right eventually.

It really depends on what type of gaming you're doing and especially how spectacular you want to run the games. If you're playing some really sophisticated games *AND* want superb graphics and rendering, the choice is obvious: 1 laptop for regular stuff, 1 desktop for games. A 10lb gaming laptop defeats the purpose of having a laptop, plus they are ridiculously expensive! It's just not practical!

However, if you aren't going to cry because the graphics aren't spectacular, purchasing only a laptop might be a very wise decision (save $, more practical). This is what I did...

I got the Dell E1505
1.86GHz Intel DUO (wonderful)
256MB ATI RADEON X1400 (great graphics card, but not the best)
1GB Ram
15.4" Truelife screen (excellent)

I got the computer above for $1130 SHIPPED (after tax/shipping). I applied a $600 discount which unfortunately is no longer available. I'm sure you can still price the same computer for about $1100 if you want (w/ current coupons).

I also wrote a review on the cpu, which can be found here:

it plays games well and is a very powerful cpu. Read up, it's worth it
