Hi,

Yester night, i put my acer ferrari 3400 into hibernation mode. Today, when i try to start up, the hdd and fan comes on, but LCD is blank (black). The caps lock and numlock leds are on, and power led is blinking orange and green. The wifi led is also lit. I am also not able to turn off caps and num lock leds using the keyboard. Please advise.

Thanks,
Eric

oh, and another thing to note is that the laptop turns on by itself when supplied power, without me pressing the on button.

I have an ACER TravelMate 4001 WLMi. I had the same symptoms as you: blinking power led (orange/green), start up after plugging (battery or power cord) and fan running. It happened one day, I don’t know the reason why, starting up the computer. I believed there was some kind of malfunction in the basic initialization routine (in fact I thought it was a hardware failure). Fortunately I found there is an emergency procedure to recover the BIOS system and I tried it. It worked. So the problem was that the BIOS was corrupted I don’t know the reason why: maybe a defective programming from factory or a problem with the quality and the integrity of the flash BIOS system.
So the most probable solution: you need to recover your BIOS. I did it with an external USB floppy disk unit. Fortunately, this method I tested and worked for my ACER is described in this address:

Good luck!

Hello,
I have the exact problem with an Acer Ferrari 3400 as well. Every symptom Ericwang is experiencing, i have also. Including the thing where you put the ac adapter into the side of the laptop and it automatically turns on without hitting the power button. I see Omichaux has the answer for us to fix these machines. Can you please advise us all on the way to fix such a problem? Or for that matter, can anyone out here please advise us on how to fix this issue because I see its quite common. I have tried the crisis bios fix but when the external floppy drive is plugged in to the laptop, the computer doesn't even acknowlege its present. Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

hi
i had the same prob in the past
i've solved it changing bios on MB
as the bios is solded on mb, you need to
cut chip and unsold rest of chip
put a support on mb
buy a new programmed bios chip a biosrecovery.com
on after it's ok
best regards
