Hate new E1505 Ultrasharp Truelife LCD

Thread Starter
I just got my new E1505 with the UltraSharp Truelife, and i hate it. I love the quality, but the 120dpi makes everything look pixelated, while the 96dpi makes everything clear, but so small i can barely see it, and the other screen sizes come up distorted....

Has anyone come up with a solution to this?? I can't take the ultra small icons, and letters.. I got the config I wanted, but I wish that it came with the ordinary non-ultrasharp screen instead...

I hate to complain since I darn near stole the laptop from Dell, but...

Congrats on the deal. How unusual to see such price on such config from Outlet? Did you use coupons/tricks?

If 96 dpi is a must, try going to Control Panel > Display > Properties > Appearance
Font Size > Extra Large
Effects > Use Large Icons

If it's still too small, get Firefox browser where you can preset minimum size of font

Or you can try DPI's between 120 and 96. It lets you choose any size

poison fl,

you can change the dpi percentage. i have the same screen as you where 96 is too small and 120dpi is too big. right now i have my dpi set at 106 using a custom dpi setting. play around with the custom dpi setting until you find a font size that is convienent for you.

No coupons, no Tricks. It was $829 -$225 off any refurb inspiron (Not a coupon, instant off) = $604 + Free Shipping That is why I bought it, They had about 5 near that price, I guess it was the luck of the draw. I actually had another E1505 on the way that I paid $741 for with the same options, except for a regular TrueLife, not ultrasharp, which I tried to cancel, but they said 15% restock + me to pay for shipping back, the kicker was that she offered me a $100 concession to keep it, so I did, and sold the system and concession on ebay really knocking down my bottom line, plus I am selling the works 2006, and Windows Media remote it came with, after everything is said and sold, i should have around $450 in it....sweet. I have bought MANY units (Dimensions & Inspirons) from the outlet, and during this deal, they made me choose a 1 year warranty at no charge, which I found odd, the Inspiron 6000 I bought last month (and all the others) came with a 90 day, no other option warranty. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I will try some manipulating later.....

I set my resolution to 115 DPI. Also, I found two utilities that help with the resolution. The Dell scaling utility:

The Microsoft Cleartype tuner

I think the display is awesome I run 96dpi

Just disable Internet Explorer Scaling by left clicking on the Dell Quickset Icon in the taskbar. 120 dpi fonts will work fine then.

Thanks, I'll try that. I tried adjusting the DPI, letter sizes, etc. and nothing looked natural. Only the 96dpi looked clear, everything else looked too pixelated, and distorted.... I guess I have to live with having the laptop close to my head to see anything. I tried 115, and it look terrible to me. I use the ClearType, but I'll try the Scaling Utility, thanks again.

Your only refuge is:

1. For IE fuzziness - Download the DELL Internet Explorer Scaling utility from support.dell.com

2. IF available, get an SXGA+ screen instead of the UXGA. I don't know why people insist on getting a UXGA screen for a 15.4...Honestly the SXGA+ gives the best balance for Clarity and Resolution for the size of the screen in most cases. UXGA IMO should be set for 17" lcds and higher only....Only because of the resolution issues most people encounter (too small of text/graphics when set to native resolution).

Does the icons, text etc on SXGA look smaller than usual WXGA.
Is there any site where we can see full size desktop pick of the common resolutions- UXGA, SXGA, and WXGA.
Thanks.

I think that Dell had the WUXGA option for e1505 in EPP section.

No, they did not.
