any version linux & 9860

Thread Starter
I've looked at the stale thread for linux on the 9860. Is there any version of linux with a guide that will allow all hardware to work? I've never had much luck getting linux to work on a few featured notebook that wasn't older than 3 years. People still have raid 0/1 sata or pata errors on this one, and when they get that working they have issues with wireless, and other necessary hardware.

im using ubuntu dapper on my 3880. i don't have raid, but wireless and pcmcia worked right out of the box, and this is the first distro to do that. it isn't "technically" stable yet (bout a month) but it's worked the best of any distro i've used. try it, it might work for everything.

I successfully loaded Ubuntu dapper on my 9880C I only have one 60gb 7200 pata hard drive which worked just fine, so I can't tell you anything about RAID problems. The only part of the on board audio that didn't work (as of yet) is the S/PDIF. I used Ndiswrapper to get the wifi card working but haven't attempted the bluetooth yet. I couldnet get the stock wifi drivers to work I had to use the drivers (and Ndiswrapper) from here: http://oasis.dit.upm.es/~jantonio/personal/aspire1410/
Just scoll down to the wireless section to find the driver link.

I also found this wiki to be of much help http://www.linuxworld.net.nz/sager98....php/Main_Page

The IRC chatrooms for ubuntu (#ubuntu and #ubuntu-offtopic) to be of great use as well.

It wasn't that bad to figure out for my first install for linux.
