Hello, have been looking into getting a laptop because I'm moving and don't want to lug my desktop with me.

I called Dell and asked to speak to the small business division as other have suggested to get a better deal. I asked about the $650 off that they can give and this is the lowest I was able to get her too. I also origianlly wanted a T2400 instead of the T2500 becuase I was going to upgrade once the 64 bit version came out, but she said it would'nt be any cheaper.

I also asked about getting the same build but without the TV Tuner and Multi-Media cables and she quoted it at $2728.00 ($3137.20 with tax)

Ok thanks SSChicken.

You've done alright. I got the following on my 1710: 2Ghz | 7900 GTX | 1GB RAM | 7.2k80GB | Bluetooth | WLAN | 3 YR NBD WAR | HD Sound + SPDIF/Composite Adapter for approx 2900 CAD including shipping. However, I went through the EPP for a 12% discount for that. However, I live in Alberta, so I only pay 7% PST (No GST for me). My final total will be less than yours, but only because of that. Mine shipped yesterday. I should have it by Wednesday *crosses fingers*

I'm actually moving to Alberta next month, so maybe I should hold off until then before I buy it...
I assume I can't avoid HST by shipping it to a relative in Alberta can I?

Also how exactly does EPP work? I think I might be able to get it because I work for a major Hotel chain and they use Dell computers. Do I need to talk to my manager and get approval or do you just tell them you work for a business that gets their computers from Dell?

your sales tax charges are made by your home billing address. Also Dell will not ship to another address, as you have to be the one who signs for it, this is for Dell's fraud protection.

Actually, you don't pay PST, everybody in Canada pays GST. PST is from the provincial government and GST is from the federal government. In Alberta's case, they opted out of PST (w00t, oil money!). Almost all other provinces have PST and it's almost always 7%. Some of the provinces, however, have opted for HST, which is just a combination of the two, basically. Sheesh, I'm not even from Alberta (I'm from Sask.) and I know this stuff

Hey, I just moved here, and I'm a Brit...

As they said...I pay GST. Although, 7% off from when I lived in Manitoba is good by me.

Lucky man, I live in Ontario, and so pay a total of 15%. I managed to get a couple of extra discounts from my EPP rep in addition to the 12% discount so it all works out. When I first placed the order the overseas rep screwed up, and I guess they were a bit appologetic. I'm just fortunate that somehow the EPP department looked over my order.
