Inspiron 9400 External Soundcard Solution!

Hi!

Some of you might wonder what soundcard to purchase if you need minimal latency and excellent sound qualities.

As for myself, I use my laptop for pro audio and some gaming while I have the time(which is not too much, but some).

I would highly recommend Terratec Aureon 7.1 Firewire if you need a soundcard. I have used all audigys incl. audigy 2 nx, but the asio latencys where always not to my highly wanted dreams.

With this soundcard there is a latency of 6ms standard and you can tweak it down to 2ms if you have enough ram and stuff.

Anyway 6ms latency is more than acceptable and the sound is like what to say a bit of the good old valve amps that we soundaholics like to discuss about.

The only small problem was that the drivers given with the card was hard to really get to work, but after installing the updated drivers from terratec website, I got a firmware upgrade and then the card was running well!

I must really say that the sound is outstanding from the card and that it will surely raise the quality from the sigmatel to a new unbelivable level. I am so stoked about the sound from this card that I cannot stop thinking about my next production.

Also it comes with a nice bag to carry and everything u need to have a portable studio/ or portable music pc!

I would say that this also kills the x-fi cards. It is really a treat!!

well as you probably know the x-fi cards have eax 4.0 solution. To me eax is not the biggest picture, as I use the pc as a portable studio. I know that this soundcard uses low ram, has excellent drivers and the soundquality for music is above excellent.

I know that the aureon comes with a program that is equal to eax 2.0, but anyway what is the difference? For me it is the sounds out of the speakers that does the judging.

For making pro audio and music this card is way better than the usb audigy 2 nx. Its like another dimension. Another world. The nx well,,, for me it sucked....

So,the few games I play are the likes as civ4 and stuff like that. I cannot say other than that the sound is excellent. The sigmatel is like a lada compared to a mercedes (beeing the aureon).

Sound quality is above excellent. The so called cristalizer for mp3s with the x-fi, for me is a gimmick. If you have cut the frequencies they are gone... Easy as that...

The card rocks!!

Very interesting and informative post! Rep to you!

Do you have links to the manufacturers site and somewhere to see what it costs?

Does this thing support Dolby Digital Live?

(Seems it does not, while its PCI version does... ****!)

The firewire jack on the 9300 is horribly placed. Any slight movement and you lose connection. This sucks cause im right handed and my mouse sometimes hits the cable and bam, i lose connection to my external HD and my music stops playing.
