Acer Aspire 2000 HELP PLEASE!

I have been looking for a combination of performance and portability. I have been let down by Gateway with over a MONTH waiting for them to build a 505XL.

Then, today, I noticed a new review on CNET for the Acer Aspire 2000. It sounds GOOD to me. (see it here: http://reviews.cnet.com/Acer_Aspire_...1.html?tag=dir)

Has ANYONE actually purchased this machine? I don't find a review on one and I would really appreciate ANY info ASAP. I have been waiting TOO LONG for a machine!

I'd take the M505 or ABS zForce F2 for the M10/R9600 alone.

However, if you don't need to game much the machine doesn't sound bad at all.

THanks. Not too concerned with the gaming. I just cannot see continuing to wait for the Gateway. Service (if that is what you call it) has been laughable as well. Not as bad as Dell expereience, but it is close.
Thanks for the advice.

Does anyone else own one already?

If what you want is portability and performance, try the ABS zForce F2. www.abspc.com

I also am recommeding the HP/CPQ NC6000 highly.

I just bought this notebook last week and it's great.

It's a little on the heavy side but the laptop is solid and well built.
The screen isn't loose and doesn't shake when typing.
The wireless b works really well and I can connect to a wireless g router that's 3 floors above me...

the screen is beautiful. It is bright and I watched several DVDs and the detail is crisp and bright.

The keys are easy to push and nicely located... although some people complained that it is too far from the front edge... but i haven't noticed difference... my hands are big and my keyboard on my desk is pretty much the same setup ....

the laptop is silent when the fan doesn't go on.. but the fan is a little on the loud side.. It'll sound a little louder than a regular desktop.
but so far, the fan only comes on when playing games... but the sounds of the game drown out the fan...
otherwise the laptop runs silent (and i mean silent)
the slot loading drive is nice but is loud when sucking in the CD and loading it. I thought it would be like the car slot loading CD drives.. but doesn't 'suck' in the CD smoothly.. it sucks it in fast and loud... but you get used to it..

i haven't used the arcade function really.

the mouse buttons by the touchpad are a little stiff but loosen up after use.

battery life is ok... so far.. i can use the laptop for 4 hours without LAN turned on.. but once wireless is on.. maybe a little over 2 hours...

overall it's a very nice laptop.

Is widescreen and a subwoofer important to you? If not, the Ferrari3000 is a faster, nicer looking, cheaper alternative =). See my review!

The ferrari 3000 is a nice alternative. But it is a fashion statement only.
It is not cheaper or faster. It is slower and more costly.
The processor in this system is an AMD-2500+ mobile, which is about on par with the processor I put in my wifes computer (2400+). Your 2500+ is a nice processor, but not a rocketship. The AMD64 is a rocket. So is the Centrino 1.7 and the P4-3.2.
And the Ferrari costs (like all things with that name) quite a lot. Of course it is pretty and nicely different.
