Just curious as to who will be getting one of these when they come out in May.

my laptops generally get replaced about every 2 years... and i just got an E1505.. that's why i vote no.

besides, i'm not a fan of the lower native resolutions that 12" screens produce (i'm guessing 1280x800).

i could just imagine a 1680x1050 res on a 12"

yea, right.

Depends on the 4 things that are a must for me:

1. Great display (bright, even with no dirty whites or sparkles, please).

2. Rigid magnesium type chassis (no cheapy, pliable plastic a la i6000).

3. Silent running (no loud fans, hopefully there is just one).

4. Decent battery life (at least 3 hours with max brightness and WiFi on).

So far it looks very tight and well made with nice fit and finish (not the 'snapped together' look we are used to from Dell). I wonder if this is the Asus model that's been buzzing around (that would explain the sleek look/build).

Another huge plus for me is the latch-less lid design (and we all know Dell has a problem with latches and making them properly meet the bottom part of he notebook without the maddening jiggle).

Another great feature is the WebCam and I can only assume that there has to be an integrated MIC as well (which comes in very handy). Looks like the Camera swivels like the Asus W5F.

Lets hope Dell doesn't fvck it up when it's finally released.

then i guess i know exactly where my place is in the mobile world.

hate the low resolutions of a 12", but also hate the non-portability (size and weight) of a 17". what i've got is right where i'm at, i guess.

What's on the Left-Arrow Key?

Can anyone tell me what the Function (Fn) feature is on the Left Arrow Key of the M1210?

Check out the high-res pictures. On the Up and Down Arrow keys are the normal brightness controls when pressed with the Fn key. But it looks like there's another brightness feature on the Left Arrow key.

To me it looks like the word "Auto" or maybe "Amb", an abbreviation for "Ambient" maybe? Perhaps this thing has backlit keys with an ambient light sensor. Any ideas?

I recently broke my 700m....
well it's still in working condition, but a LOT of things needs to be replaced:

1. Hinge cover (shouldn't cost a lot)
2. Keyboard (shouldn't cost a lot)
3. Monitor is loose....I might need to replace it....the plastic screen is detached from the plastic frame...
4. Audio jack needs replacement
5. Motherboard needs replacement because the metal part that is attached to the audio jack is broken

it might cost a lot to repair...I rather buy a new laptop....

Dont get me wrong. I LOVE my 700m...only complaint is the graphics card.

That brightness key does indeed appear to say 'Auto'. Also, if you look by the left speaker on the display bezel there is a small (covered) port which might very well be an Ambient Light Sensor (or at least I am assuming it is). But don't count on a backlit keyboard, the sensor, if there is one, will be just to change display brightness. The keyboard looks silver - hope it really is!

Edit: Unless it's the MIC? We'll soon find out I guess.

is it for sure going to have a x1300 or 7300? if it does have one of those cards and a nice coupon comes along...sold.
when is the projected release date?

I am looking forward to getting this the day it comes out. It's gonna be the PERFECT replacement to my long-time 700m.

depends on price

That would be sweet if it did have a backlit keyboard. I'm not holding my breath though, but man, would that be awesome!

Also, what would be the purpose of having an Ambient light sensor, if that is indeed what the Left Arrow Key is for, if not for a backlit keyboard?

i want one of these bad boys! hopefully the gfx performance is pretty decent!

Well, i was going to get the new 640m, but that isnt much different to the 630m - just core duo. I am looking at the m1210 and the asus w7j, but am waiting to see what the specs and prices are for them. The dell looks the more likely due to its hopeful low price.

too bad the XPS line gets the crappy coupons.. 10% plus maybe a stackable $100 or so off.. that's gonna be about the best deal you can get. thus the main reason i won't even bother with XPS.

We have a winner!

If I do get one it will be next year. That way the price will be cheaper and it will come with Vista. Hopefully with the video card, it will be able to run Vista with all the bells and whistles. Until then, I will use my 700m. I want to see its size, weight, and price. Hopefully its thinner than 700m, but I doubt it.

Interesting to see so many wanting a high resolution display on this one... I hope you know what you're asking.

I have a iXPS2 and it's by far the best computer I've ever owned. It only has one flaw in my opinion though, and that is it's 1920*1200 native resolution. Sure, it's nice to have it in general use, but it also means I have to max the games to this resolution aswell if I don't want the games to look blurry. And the newest games just push the machine to the edge at that resolution, and that's why I whish it didn't have such a high native resolution - And most definitely don't want it in a laptop with not the fastest GPU, like the M1210...

1280*800 would be perfect on this little baby IMO.

Hrmm

A higher high resolution display? Eeek.. christ that would kill most peoples eyes at anything higher then 1280*800 onn a 12' display.

Also I am curious.. are the video cards going to be 64MB? or Higher?
it's not so much that i want a 12" display that does 1680x1050, but that i want a display that does 1680x1050. if a 12" won't do it (well), then i don't want it at all.
