System properties say cpu is slower on AC

Hi,
New to forum and I recently purchased an Hp Dv 5178us and was wondering when I check the system properties it says my cpu is running at 980mhz and not 1.66 when plugged into AC. Otherwise the computer runs everything just fine with no problems.
Any advice would help....Thank you.

I found the solution to my problems...All I had to do was change some settings in the power options in the control panel and everything works fine now.

What settings?

Notebook Hardware Control, or RMClock, or something similar, will help.
You get pretty specific on how you want the laptop to behave when on AC, and when on battery.
