i have a sony dvd+-rw dw-q58a in a m140

when i try to rip a dvd i can only achieve a read rate of x 1.1 why is it that it is going so slow? i can get at least a read rate of x 4.0 on my desktop.

also i was loading some movies that i had burn to a dvd cd the file size was 3.6gb and by just dragging and droping the file into the folder i wanted it said that it would take 45 min to complete. **** me old ass dvd drive on my desktop goes faster than that, i even tested it and it was 15 min so somethink is wrong. i got a 250gb externial hd and i can transfer 17gb from a usb 2.0 cable to it in about 20 min.

something is wrong, its got to be

check your power options, if you select always on then it may speed things up a little, at the cost of battery power.

well the power options are on desktop/home and the ac line is pluged in so i think that the power settings should be at there highest.

ok well ill try that but i also was loading some movies that i had burn to a dvd cd the file size was 3.6gb and by just dragging and droping the file into the folder i wanted it said that it would take 45 min to complete. **** me old ass dvd drive on my desktop goes faster than that, i even tested it and it was 15 min so somethink is wrong. i got a 250gb external hd and i can transfer 17gb from a usb 2.0 cable to it in about 20 min.

ok i have done some more testing and i have a 16x sony dvd external drive that is hooked up to my computer by a usb 2.0 cable. i can rip a dvd and get read rates of up to 6.0x. now i understand that the external drive has a faster read rate but why is it that i can read data quicker through a usb 2.0 cable than i can on my internal dvd drive, doesnt that seem odd. also when it comes to cpu usage im maxing out the 1.73 p-m when just riping a dvd (not encoding but JUST ripping the data off it) on the interanl drive and when i use the external drive im hovering at about 10-25% cpu usage and it doesnt even clock up to 1.73, it says at 800 mhz.

when using the external dvd drive and ripping a dvd i can also run media player, firefox, encode a dvd, and my ram usage only goes up to 410mb and everything run smooth and doesnt lockup. howerver if i use the internal dvd player to rip a dvd and that is it the systme lags and is not that responsive.

i have already uninstalled the dvd drives and reinstalled them and that did nothing.

i have used nero to find out what the bust rate is on the transfer and i am only getting 2mb/s that is VERY low and should be much higher, again what give? on my external drive i can get 21mb/s and thats through a usb cable.

i only have 512 ram(256x2) could that be a reason for the slow read rates? is so them why is it then that the external goes faster though?
