Help I Need To Overclock My M1710 GPU - Page 2

Oh man this really does suck, i have little experiance with graphics card flashing, (though i do have loads with graphic card overclocking + system bios flashing (though through windows)).

1. i have no floppy drive
2. cdrom booting to flash seems abit iffy to me

Is there no other way to flash the card so you can overclock through windows, or will that never happen? Because i don't want to flash the card over and over and over eventually killing the firmware chip.

Hopefully this will be sorted for when my M1710 gets here (estimated date may9th)

No (not using the Dell vbios), the vbios is lock so you have to edit and reflash it. I use a bootable memory key to flash mine and had no problems.

So is there no chance at all that we will get a hacked bios to allows us to overclock in windows?

Has that even be done before with previous laptop cards?

I seem to remeber someone on the forum was trying to get another vendors vbios to work on the older cards but i don't remeber if manage to get it to work. I doubt we will see an easy way to OC in windows with the Dell Vbios.

I read it somewhere that tells us how to create a bootable USB memory, but it was long time ago.

Can you tell us how did you create one nowadays?
Any faster way? Because the one i read is, i have to extract the boot file from xp cd and change a bit and copy to memory, i think.

Here are a couple of link on who to make a bootable memory key. The vendor of the memory usally will whave a util to make the key bootable.

Hate to deal with Floppies.
I would rather deal with the WinXP CD, got to do some research using the CD instead.

There was a way to use WinXP CD to get the image and put it in the USB memory with the HP problem, I done it before, but I haven't try the boot since I found out my old desktop can boot from USB memory.

But my 1710 is coming, so I want to find a faster way to do it.

Not every USB memory can be bootable, if I remember correctly.

Alright...for all of you who have never flashed a GPU bios before, I am with you.

Newbie that I am, I followed the instructions:
1: the 1710 does boot with a USB key
2: once booted, I followed the instructions and flashed without a hitch
3: I set my stuff at 550/700 to be safe and played with the control panel - restarted and it stuck. In fact, it read the new settings on the next start up
4: I then ran an optimal test again and it gave me higher numbers
5: I applied those settings and ran Mark05 to look for artifacts - I didn't see any problems.

At any rate, I am now heading off to format the HDD and start with a fresh install of OS and newest drivers.

Good luck everyone.

Zyb gets MASSIVE rep from me. His instructions were bang on. Great job!!!

Why overclock this? My laptop is extremely fast and plays every game maxxed out. I wouldn't want to risk damaging anything..

It's really not about playing games, it's about seeing what your laptop can do!!

As soon as I get my hands on one of these, you can bet I am gonna be OCing that sucker!!

Actually, for me it is about playing games as well. Running HDR in 1920x1200 will only benefit from a few cycles.

It's taking to freaking long to process the credit card.

Dude...when I got my stock 1710 I was playing Oblivion with HDR on in native res. Pre OC I was getting approx 8400 3DMark. I just got 9202 http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=150688

I am now going back to play more 1920x1200 Oblivion with HDR on. Damn it looks sweet. The wait WILL be worth the while and your dream will be a reality.
