with the last computer my M6BNe i was forced to buy the toshba drive because the panasonic drive was not avalible in my location. it has got to be the worst drive out there, it takes 38 mins to copy a DVD9 were my pioneer desktop drive takes 12mins. it doesnt recognize half the cds i put in, i always have to cycle the tray, it never burns at its rated 24x and this is burning from an HDD than can trasnfer at 32MB/s stable (samsung 80GB) ive tried burning cds off an ext HDD that cant transfer at 25MB/s stable, nope only burns at 12x. ive even burned a dvd from my laptop HDD over my gigabit network onto my desktops pioneer drive and it burns at full speed. so its not the laptop, its the CD drive that wont do 24x. Also toshiba products tend to blow up but i guess it only happens to me
ive had a toshiba laptop in college (Satalite pro 4200), the HDD died 8 times, the screen hinges got loose and my screen would not longer stay up, my screen died once but i think that was because the screen fell backwards and smacked into the table, the floppy drive died & was sent back to get a replacement but took 2 weeks, the mouse pointer thing kept wandering, the DVDrom stopped reading dvds (burned and pressed) but could read cds? not sure how thats possible, basically that thing was a peice of crap and i know there are some lemons but 6 other people in my class had the same problems, just not as sever (their hdds maybe died 3-4 not 8). i had used my ibm loner laptop LONGER than i did the toshiba which was assigned to me.
ok so its not just toshiba laptops or cd drives
i bought a toshiba dvdplayer (one of the newer dvd players that can do mp3) the peice of shit menus on that looked like it was an alpha version, most of the menus didnt even work, it did not play anything higher than 192 without skipping, then allof a sudden the power supply blew, i barely used that thing and it died. it did play regular dvds but was not very quick and accessing the menus.
my friends dell 9300 comes with a toshiba bluetooth card, the range on that card is total crap, it wont even do 100ft for HID devices (BT mouse), the stack is totally crippled, it doesnt support pan, audio gateway doesnt work. my DLINK BT108 adapter has a range of 1 city block almost, it still has a stable connection even when the laptop is at 1 end of my office building and im at the very far wall on the other side, i can barely see my laptop screen but i can still scroll and move the mouse. i know its useless to use a mouse at that range but when you can do that it means your connectivity to the devices is stable, ive never had my BT mouse disconnect or go all weird from interference.
ive had other toshiba products and they've all been either garbage or blew up.
im done with toshiba, same goes for sony, sony isnt as bad but their propriatary BS is starting to get to me, esp that rootkit crap that comes with their audio cds,
ive switched most my electronics over to panasonic/matsushita/pioneer and ive havent had a single problem, my panasonic microwave is almost as old as i am and still hasnt failed. none of the eletronics like TVs, stereos, dvdrw drives, car HU/decks have failed after i switched over. for me anything is better than toshiba/sony, i would rather kill myself if i had to buy their products again.
