On a new gaming rig!!!!!

Thats right you have $3500 to spend on a new gaming rig....well I do and wanted to know what suggestions you all have for me.

Mainly play FPS/MMORPG's

Here is my current config:

Amd 64 4800 x2 2.4ghz (Or would you all go fx-55/57)
2GB corsair mem
Antec 550 psu
Xp Pro
Evga 7600GT 256 X2 in SLI
150GB Western Digital 10,000rpm sata
Viewsonic 19" 8ms lcd monitor

Ok that is all the big stuff...any input is appreciated all

Thanks

with 3500 bucks, surley you can to better than that. Start with at LEAST 1 7900GTX, if not 2. This means a better psu. Pick up an opty 170 instead too, the oc like crazy.

sorry, diddnt have time for a longer post, just something quick to get you moving.

Definitely a RAID candidate. 4 Raptor 150's in RAID 1 or 0.

Get an Opteron 165 or 170.

2GB of some high quality RAM. Corsair is good.

PSU: PCP&C, OCZ Powerstream or Enermax Liberty.

Get at least a 7900GT.

Raptor is OK if you like a horrible performancerice ratio. Raptors are just SCSI drives that couldn't pass the rigorous tests SCSI drivers are required to go through, so they made it SATA.

opteron 170, 2gb, storage is up to your needs, 7900gtx seems good
you can get that for under 2500, so spend the remaining 1000 on a Viewsonic 32" for pwnage
post #7 of 24
^ yeah but the viewsonic 32" only has a resolution of 1366 x 768 so.. if you get the viewswonic 32"or any other monitor/tv that runs 1366 x 768 don't go with sli because there will be no difference if your playing iwth 1 7900 gtx or two at that low of a resolution. I say go with like the Nex 20". Its a bit pricey like 800 $ or like 750 $ but it has the best picture quality. go to www.hardforum.com and go into the siplay section and look at the pictures of it. Yeah if you want to go with the amd x2 4800 + be my guest. It is very fast proccesor and this one guy oc'ed it to 2.93 ghz on water, but if you wanna save yourself some $$$ go with the opty 170 or opty 165. Also go with 2 150 raptors in raid 0 and two 500 gb hd's in raid 0. You will have very fast load times and alot of storage. Hope this helped!

AMD FX 60 DUAL CORE
2 GIGABYTES of some good ram such as Corsair or OCZ
2 (7900 GTX's)
High quality Antec power supply...

The rest is up to you.
I wouldn't do 7900GTX in SLI. No matter what CPU you've got you'll be bottlenecking the cards.

FX60 is good but is way overpriced for what you get, just like everything in the FX series.
