New Dell E1705 with Go 7900gs review on PC World

Thread Starter
The new Dell E1705 will come with the go 7900gs and is supposed to have similar led lights of the Dell XPS M1710 as show on PC world magazine. The test show the Dell E1705 as one of the fastest game notebooks until the date of the review at least until the XPS M1710 is reviewed. The test also show that the new go 7900gs should be similar in performance to the go 7800gtx.

This show that at least the go 7900gs will be 100% compatible with the Dell E1705 and maybe the go 7900gtx should work with similar upgrade of the go 7800gtx (130w power supply, xps bios).

Those LED lights are just the front panel ones.

"The E1705 will turn heads with its cream-colored trim and bright blue LEDs. At 8.2 pounds and with a 3-hour battery life (using the $79 nine-cell battery), it's a friendly travel partner."

I wanna see some 7900gs go. vs. 7800 go.

That's an awesome deal, eoplocust. Just remember that unless we're VERY rich & have no other outlets to spend our money, there's just no way that we can keep up with technology that's constantl & rapidly changing. I believe that as long as you can afford & like what you buy, then it beats having the best technology that's available.

My overclocked E1705 with 7800 did a 3300 3DMark06, out of the box, my M1710 with 7900gs did a 3550, stock drivers, no overclock. Same hard drive, same ram, same memory.

I can't wait until the 7900GTX gets here and see what it puts out!

Yeah and the 7900gs only uses 20W of power!

you really mean to say the 7800 and 7900gs ONLY have a 250 pts difference on 3dmark06?? do both of your notebook have the same processor speed too?

Yes, although if you put in the 7900GTX 512 there will be a huge increase. The difference between the 7800 and 7900gs is minimal

So the 7900gs is equal or better than a 7800gtx? Im curious because I got rid of my M170 and got a M1710, but the 1710 has the GS card in it. I kinda thought it wouldnt be slower than the 7800gtx.

The difference between the 7800GTX and the 7900GS, I think they would be very close if not maybe still better for the GTX. You are comparing the almost top of the line 7800 with the bottom of the line 7900

Yeah, both numbers were with a 2.16 processor, but keep in mind that the 7800 had its memory and gpu overclocked, whereas the 7900GS was at stock speeds with stock Dell driver.

Does this mean that future warranty replacements of the 7800 video card will be 7900 cards?
Would this give an improvement in battery life?
Will dell no longer stock 7800s?

Thanks.

My M170 was replaced with a M1710, but the 1710 has a 7900gs. Im a bit upset that the 7900gs might not be as good as the 7800gtx. I will likely call Dell about it. Will the 7800gtx fit in the 1710?

Some people just have bad luck. I have about the same specs - but just ordered on April 25th and it was 957$. It arrived on Tuesday. Still haven't opened it. Waiting to see if we get a surprise (like a new 7900GTX part number) before I decide if I want to keep it.

If 7900GS and 7800GTX are quite similar, stay with 7900GS. Better temperature, ocerclock possibilities, 90W power adapter......
It is not so bad, in my opinion.

How is batterylife with 7900GS vs 7900GTX\7800GTX?

hmm ok, now it makes more sense.. can you please post a 3dmark run with the same drivers, clock speed and everything else similar on both cards, so we can all get a better idea of how the 2 compares? and if it's worth updating a brand new 7800go with a brand new 7900gs?

In etest I saw with stock 7800go i9400 and the toshiba P105 the 3Dmark05-scores were 3800 vs 6200, over 50% faster... But I belive the 3800 score was with old drivers, with new ones over 4000 shouldnt be a problem
