Enabling DV8000 Bluetooth?

Anyone know how to do it? I know the wireless card also has bluetooth, and the driver indicated this as well. But I have know idea how to activate it. There is a sheet posted at HP with instructions for installing software by going through the start menu...but I don't have the options that are mentioned??

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing...

BTW: as a suggestion, how about posting the link you referenced?

PS: Not that it might made a differance in this case, but are you talking about a dv8000 (z), or (t)?

If I remember right, the Bluetooth on my dv8000t was enabled when it came. Do you have a blue shield with red or white triangles inside down on your toolbar menu? If you do and the triangles are red then the BT is off (but installed), white means it's active (green means it's connected to another device).
If you don't have that blue icon, try mousing-over or right clicking on your wireless icon (the antenna icon) on the toolbar menu and see if bluetooth is activated. If not, highlight the option to turn on BT.
I hope this helps. I don't have my laptop in front of me now, so I apologize if my descriptions are a bit off.

Here is the link to the hp data sheet on the bluetooth:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00186949.pdf

My model is a t (core duo) - DV8230us to be exact.

Bluetooth does not show up in device manager as indicated (but I know the card has bluetooth). Also, the part where it says to go to start > all programs > software setup ..... I do not have "software setup".

I have the driver installed from the restore disk that is for the bluetooth...but I don't see any bluetooth software.

WeAreNotAlone: In another thread you posted bluetooth software - where is this from? Also, what is - ESUPDATES2.

Chris: I know what you are referring to about the icon as that is listed in the above linked sheet. However, I do not have that anywhere on mine that I can tell.

I'll tell you - I really like the machine. But getting it set-up has been a major pain in the a**....with NO help from HP. And I'm not a novice.

Any help is appreciated.

nightsky,
Don't take this the wrong, but are you sure your card has got bluetooth? I think the dv8230us is a "stock" configuration, which is why it's got a specific number unlike 8230 as opposed to 8000t. The reason I say this is that I checked Circuit City, Comp USA, and Amazon and all of their models listed under 8230us are the same and none of them list bluetooth, only "tri-mode wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g)".

Let me ask you an unrelated question. I've posted a question in this forum and on the PTP help forum on the Go7400 video memory on these 8000t's. Mine always shows 512MB total, but in the bios I've got no way of selecting how much shared video memory I want used. Since shared is always slower than dedicated, I want to turn it off but there isn't even an option for the vid memory. Can you tell me if you've got the same options in the bios and you vid memory configuration? I'm running the most recent bios, F.09A. Thanks.

Chris,

Yeah...I'm an idiot After looking into it further, the 8230 does NOT have bluetooth, the 8280 does. Sorry for the confusion.

I would also like to know about the video as well. Mine also shows 512 and I would like to turn off the shared. But I have not figured it out. Please report back if you find the solution and I'll do the same.

One final thing, does anyone know how I can accurately check the speed of the memory? THe 8230 is supposed to have 1 gig 667mhz installed (yes I know this spec for sure ). When I run CPU-Z it shows up as 333mhz.

From the C:\\SwSetup folder off a dv8000t

What is ESUPDATES2?

ESUPDATES2 = Essential Updates. Guess it's stuff HP adds in so the hardware will work.

You guys should snag a copy while it's still available. It's not listed on the HP site: http://www.notebookforums.com/showpo...33&postcount=2

Here's another thread with some interesting info, if your looking on doing a fresh install of windows.

I would assume the reason for the 333mhz is that the processor is a core duo. 667/2 = 333.5 ~ 333. Not 100% sure, but it makes sense.

When running CPUZ, were you running it while on battery or AC Adapter? I have read that the RAM and Video Card frequency are cut in half to save battery life while on the battery. That could be an explanation. I read that gaming while on battery is not to be attempted because of this. Do you know if it would be possible to swap the Go 7400 with a Go 7800/7900 that I buy off eBay?

My dv8000t came with 667 spec'd memory... pulled the chips... Google the chip id.

From everything I've read the GPU is part of the motherboard on the HP's.... Unlike the Dells.
