Hi everybody! I got my M1710 today, and while I could post pics, I don't have anything to show that is different than others. I did want to answer some frequently asked questions about the M1710. If you have any others that I can answer, please post.
Does the M1710 have Gigabit Ethernet?
Yes, it does. It has a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
Is the Audigy Advanced HD Audio Hardware or Software?
I can say for 100% it is software based. My system has the Creative software installed, but the hardware in device manager is listed as the Sigmatel 9200 chip. The CD that comes with the system has an activation key that requires connection to Creative Labs web site to activate.
Any 4.1 or 5.1 outputs
Not from what I can find. The Creative software offers options for 2.1 speakers or headphones and thats it.
Can you change the touchpad light?
No, it is red. You can turn it on or off as desired.
What is the long slot on the bottom?
It is the docking station connector - Dell has finally restored the docking capability to this line of laptops. About time, I say!
Will it support Merom (64 bit)?
We won't know for 100% sure until a) the Merom chips are available and b) we see if a BIOS update from Dell is needed to make it work. The suspicion at this time is that it will work.
What else can I answer?
