Thinking about installing quieter fans in my 5680, Any advice?

Thread Starter
I don't like how loud my 5680 is while I'm in a quiet class and the fans power up. So, I'm looking into getting quieter fans to get the same job done. Anyone done this before, or have a good idea as to what kind of fans to replace the loud ones with? Thanks for any help/advice!

Search the forums for posts by Henrik as he created a nifty little program that (if I recall correctly) can control the fan speeds on certain models. Might work for you and be easier/safer than replacing fans.

Check the 56XX tech support pages. The top sticky concerning swapping ctrl and fn keys. Apparently the firmware takes care of a "chirping" sound some have complained of and I believe they accomplish this by varying the fan speed (haven't read the whole post).

Is Henriks program actually out? I thought he wasn't done with it yet...back to searching heh.

I jfinally found it and he's not going to be finishing it either he said There goes my hopes for a quiet laptop.... I don't like the fans revving to full power before slowing down. It doesn't make sense. I've love to be able to just set it and leave it at low.

This would be a good signal to PCTorque/Sager to either:
1). Fix the fan algorithm
2). Give us a fan control utility or something

(I don't have a Sager) But I have a Gateway laptop which is 4 years old, and in the Phoenix BIOS, you have the choice between best performance or less noise. I'm surprised Sager doesn't have this option in the BIOS...

It might be a longshot but did you check for such a feature in the BIOS?

Fans (DC fans -- for the most part) don't like to be driven below 7v. Based on where the slow speed resides in terms of voltage, Clevo may be doing an initial 12v in order to get over the startup hump...
