Help with my Video Card

Please offer any help you can give on this matter.
Here's the problem:

I bought a Geforce 7800GTX video card for my desktop, soon after I installed it I did a 3DMark test, my score was a 1.589, which is not very good.

Then I tested my games, and it did not run the games well. My Frames per second were not very good even in a 3 year old game with settings at high. I also can't play new games on high without settings at low.

So then many people told me it was my power supply, I only had a 350W PSU. Then I decided I'd buy an Antec 480W PSU, then tried out 3DMark and my game again. 3DMark score was 1.5k. The old game got bad FPS with my graphic settings at high.

Please offer any help you can give, this has been a long ordeal and I really want to fix the problem.

PCI-E power?

Stats of my computer are:
64-bit 3.2GHz Processor with Hyper Threading
1.5GB of RAM
480W Power Supply
7200RPM 150 GB Hard Drive

All you need to know right?

lol...the card requires a 6 pin pci-e power connector.

looks something like this:

So it's supposed to be on the graphics card or motherboard? If I don't have it, is there any way for me to get one? Should the card or motherboard come with one?

On the card... the card should come with a molex to PCI-E adaptor cable.

That link i showed you is a picture of the back end of you video card. If you powersupply doesnt have a pci-e connecter, then yes, the card should have came with a 4 pin miled to 6 pin pci-e connector

here, to give you a better idea, here it is on the card.

that't an XFX, it might be a little different on whatever brand your card is

here is what you should look for on your psu, the little plug on the left of this.

that is what plugs into the card. If your psu doesnt have one, you should have the adapter, which is pictured above

I tried it, and it actually made it worse on 3DMark. Any other suggestions or ideas?
theres no way it could hae gotten worse, its a neccicary component of the card. How did you hook it up, did your psu have a conector, or did you use a splitter.

I tried a splitter, and I used the connector of the PSUs. It got worse. I don't know how, but it did.

ok...what about the chipset drivers, do you have those installed? Without them, your mobo wont know how to work its slots...

i dunno man...i'm kind of out of ideas. Something in your computer, weather it be your motherboard or gpu, must be deffective.

Is that the only possibility? That something is defective?

No your power supply is probably too weak. Is it at least a 500 Watt ATX 2.01 power supply? Because my 6800 XT requires at least a 450Watt. A weak power supply will slow down a video card in a hurry if it can't get enough current. And when you start hooking up other stuff the scores go down.

I think he said it was 580W...should be plenty

Not that I don't trust the power supply manufacturer but the problem he is having is acting exactly like a weak power supply. What brand is it? Is it dual rail 12v? What are the 12v amps?
