I have an almost new (barely used since I bouight it in 2001) and stock (except for memory upgrade) HP Pavilion N3402 with Windows ME. It works perfect but the screen gets so hot that you cannot even touch it. It gets hot on the plastic bezel about half way up the right side right where the glass meets the plastic frame. I can only put my hand on it for 1-2 seconds before it becomes unbearable. It does not smell even though it gets this hot. It seems as though it should melt the plastic housing but it doesn't. Is there any fix for this or am I doomed to get a new screen?
