I read in the AW boards that someone who was having all sorts of problems with games used this tool to install the latest Catalyst drivers and now is cruising along...just wondering if anyone has tried these out???

Isn't that essentialy what the Omega drivers ( www.omegacorner.com ) are is moded Catalyst Drivers?
What woudl be the benefit of doing this yourself?

That is what I was wondering...if you go into the AW forums under the moderated mobile section under the subject "games freeze"...an individual posted the following...
I went to run the alienware 7.95 install, and got the infamous "Your hardware not found..." message.. *sigh*

Downloaded the omega drivers, worked GREAT! Until I was on battery power.... Uninstalled those..

Used the new 4.1 based catalyst drivers running dhmod (or whatever it was called) to let the laptop install them, and it's FLAWLESS. I've stress tested this for 12 hours running the FFXI benchmark 2 and it's consistently running around 3380-3420 every time. No issues on battery power either.

Sorry AW, but everything that DIDN'T work on my drivers (NWN, AoM, etc) works AWESOME now! You guys seriously should consider a better driver rollout, cause the new catalyst set is quite wonderful on my laptop..

...just wondering if they are better than the Omega's because I was getting subpar performance with the Omega's compared to the 7.95...

I may give those a try tonight and see if they work any better the new Omegas are out too and they are aloso based on the 4.1 catalys drivers so they may work better as well.

I will install the Dhmod ones tonight and run abenchmark of 3dmark03 and see if it scores any better!

Installed Dhmod Catalyst 4.1 Driver!

Installed and working wonderfully so far so good I have to re-download the benchmarks to test those forgot tosave from last format Whoops! oh well they are downlaoding now I will run them and show scores heere shortly Ihave played a some Halo and CoD and they at least to me seem to be running smother on these drivers! So far so good I have not had much time to play with them yet but both moinitors run onthis driver just fine and it was breeze to install! Just download the offical ATI Catalyst drivers and the mod program from Driver heaven run the Ati drivers till you get the INf error then run the Mod program and then the Ati install program one more time make sure you do not overwrite the files the second time you try to install or the mod wont work. It does come up with the warning Windows xp does not certify this driver but its a moded driver so that is expected.

This is great news!!! I am going to try them out...if Halo and COD run smoother with these drivers then I am sold!!! Keep us informed Braingoo! One quick question, is there still the powerplay options with the catalyst drivers?

YES!

The results are in!

These Drivers are slightly faster Ihave run 3Dmark03 and I am getting slighly higher numbers. The funny thing is its not the FPS thatare better but the Detail and the textures got a shot in the arm!

here are my results

Test 1 NO ocing

Test 2 Slight ocing (this is where I usualy leave it)
411 engine
229 memory

Test 3 Max ocing (probably not a good idea to go any higher than this)
435 engine
246 memory

YOU CAN EXPECT HIGHER NUMBERS WITH FASTER PROCESSORS AND 3200 RAM

Hey Brain how did you install this thing? I uninstalled the ATI Display Driver then the ATI Control Panel and then restarted in safe mode and used driver cleaner to remove everything else. Once I restarted I ran the latest catalyst install and then when it said it did not detect proper harware I ran the mod and then it proceeded to continue with the installation. I restarted again but have no ATI options under the advanced tab...my ATI control panel is nonexistent...did I do something wrong??? Thanks in advance and good to see you back Craig!!!

Hmm wel I did not uninstall at all! I just ran the catalyst drivers and then ran mod catalyst drivers again and everything worked fine.

...got it thanks...what is the deal with the color option under the ATI control panel? How did you color correct or what settings did you use? I no longer have numerical gamma, brightness, etc. options...
Braingoo...do you happen to have the 3DMark2003 numbers for your machine using the 7.95 and Omega drivers as well? I'd like to see the difference between these two drivers and the ones you just installed at normal clock settings.
wow. this sounds great! will try it once my machine gets back from the mothership.
I have since reformatted but from what I can remember With the original 7.95 drivers i was getting about 2300 - 2400 or so without over clocking so this adds about another 100 to 200 pionts I got roughly the same with the Omega drivers they just seemed to be more compatible.

How did you color correct with these drivers Brain? Since the numeric gamma is gone I cannot get the desktop to look decent unless I use powerstrip...perhaps you have a workaround or better settings...is there no way to keep the 7.95 control panel and install the 4.1 catalyst drivers???

Thanks! I guess the trick is to not uninstall anything...I reinstalled the 7.95 and then just installed the Catalyst right over it and success...so hopefully these prove to be a superior option...BTW that is a pretty cool theme/desktop...do you use styleXP and if so what are your feelings about it? I'm not too familiar with it...does it cause any conflicts or slow down the system??? Thanks again Brain...I'd be ripping my hair out without you!!!
