Haha, I wish - I'd love that! I did include a set of detailed instructions on how to install the drivers I included in the package, however. It takes an hour or two of work, but when you're done you'll have a mean machine. My has been working flawlessly with my new package. If you find a good auto-installer let me know and I'll take a look at it! The one problem I see is that some of the drivers require a restart, which may conflict with other drivers that also need to be restarted before going on.

gweilo8888, thank you again for hosting the file, I'm sure you've helped make many 7405gx owners very happy

Yeah, i found some auto-installers im trying out. One says its used for manufactors to make restore CD's so i might be on to something and end up making a mean package!

I have a auto-install file created with via 5.08, ati 6.4, sound, modem, processor, and a d-link wireless driver. The options get somewhat limited after that. You can configure it to your specific computer.

Its setup kind of how if SP2 came with your own drivers pre-detected in the OS. Not seperate driver packages.

Kaido - first thanks to you. (have a 7405gx as well) I have read your posts here and learned loads from you (and others too). I am very new to this lappy world, so your assistance would greatly be appreciated.

I have a good deal of PC knowledge but help me understand what this driver pack does. How important would it be for me to install it? I have made no modifications to my unit. Not that brave yet.

This driver pack that Kadio made will help people who have to reformat their computer. I looked through it and it seems to have updated drivers for everything. Sometimes Gateway does not update their drivers on their website, and if we need to get updated drivers for whatever reason, we are left hunting them down. Luckily we have people like Kadio and Fizi (creator of the eMachines Resource Portal) who like to do this for us.

PS: Kadio, how about adding the firmware hack for the DVD-Burner. It changes the GWA-4080n (DVD +/- R/RW) to a GMA-4080n (DVD +/- R/RW, DVD+DL, DVD-RAM). It is relativly small, I have mine hacked for over about 1 year and it has been working flawlessly. Here is the link :http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GSA4080N. We used the SONY 0S35 to obtain the extra formats.

Mestizo122 - thanks for the reply. I saved this topic just in case..

Had a close one there, so sorry so long to get back to you as my unit had to go to Cali for repair via Best Buy. Anyhow, they've replaced the "CPU heatsink" but... the left top near hinge area was smashed badly in transit. It is considered a "redo" and supposedly will be back before eom. (looks quite sad)

Sorry about your laptop, but the 7405 should not go to California, the Arima the company that designed and fixes it is located in Houston, Texas.

Nevermind, I see that it is through Best Buy, I guess they have their own repair facilties.

Actually, it went Illinois per the paper that came back with it. Still not back yet. (sighs)

My laptop had been to the UK, Germany, OZ, Africa, some Caribbean islands, more countries I can't think of and even various US places too and came back with light scratches on the lid. Now it goes US to US and gets banged up like this, go figure.

I hope that you get your laptop soon, I was barely able to go without mine for the 3 days it was out for the hinges.
