Cancelled my order but Dell still sent it

What do I do?

Long story but I screwed up my order by entering the wrong expiry for my CC. Got a message saying that there was a problem with the order. Called the CC company, figured it out, fixed the problem and placed another order.

Okay, so I had two orders now but I figured the one with the wrong date would not go through since they already told me as much. In other words, I thought it was automatically cancelled.

Dell contacted me about the order so I called them. They said they had them both on hold. Told them to cancel one and they said it was done. All was well. I thought.

Wanted to change something. Called Dell and they said they'd have to cancel my order and issue me a new one. Said fine and all was well.

Called Dell again to apply the $50 off $799+ and they told me my order was still on hold and I STILL had two of them. Fixed that and told them to CANCEL one. My order now went into processing and I tracked it on the web.

My sister just called me and told me that she got TWO computers today. I checked one of my old order numbers (the second one I placed after I entered the CC expiry wrong) and it showed as being shipped by UPS.

So what do I do? Will Dell arrange for it to be returned to them? And if it's somehow a screw up and they sent it "free", I'm not a thief.

Guess I should call them tomorrow then...

You should call your credit card company and advise of the error ASAP, and then call Dell.
I'll agree. Call your credit card company to see if its been charged. If it has explain the error to them.. If however, it hasn't, then well.. I guess you'll decide what to do.

Yes you should call them as soon as possible. You won't have to pay for return shipping, the UPS guy will have the shipping tag, or Dell will send you one to slap on the box. You should also check your credit card as soon as possible to see how many debits Dell placed on the account. They put the money on hold the moment you place the order with your credit card company, but will pull the money from your account once each order has been shipped. Since the box is sealed, I don't recommend bothering to open the box, as if anything was missing during shipment, Dell could make you accountable, so leave it sealed.

Thanks.

I just called and I have pending charges for nearly $3k.

So looks like that would be two computers + another couple things I bought that total another $300 or so.

Will call Dell tomorrow cause EPP is closed after 6 p.m.

And to add to DanFortH's post which I just saw after posting the above, I've told my sister not to open either box until I sort it out with Dell.

The computer which I want (changed a component and applied the $50 coupon to) came via FedEx so it should be safe to open as it's the UPS one I want to send back, but playing it safe for now.

same thing happened to me, there was a problem with my credit card address or something last week and the bastards at Dell still shipped my orders! But they gave me $100 credit to accept them so I will try to sell some laptops.

hmmm, wat i would do, is check the CC statement, if you have been debited twice, call dell straight away and tell them the problem. this is like a similiar problem i had, with my ISP company (optus for all u aussie readers). when i got this new braodband service, they sent me a faulty modem. told optus about this, and they said they will send me a new one. when i received this new one, there was a sticker with the courier service, saying that they will comepack in a day and pick it up, the reason for this was i was to put my old, fautly modem and assesscories into that box, leave it outside my house, for courier guy to pick it up, he never did. also lol, optus sent me two modems instead of a replacement one.

Well, I think I've gotten it sorted out by now.

Talked to a CS rep who asked me three times to confirm the order number so she sets up the return for the correct order. lol, she was just as paranoid/anal-retentive as I am.

So dropping it off to UPS (said I'd do drop-off since I don't know when they'd come to pick it up) on Friday and hopefully they credit it back on my CC soon.

Thanks for all the advice everyone and thanks to whoever gave me all the crazy rep points. I honestly don't know what for unless it was just to cheer me up.

Hope you get it sorted ok - when I ordered my 8600 over the phone, the rep accidentally put through the order twice. Went to use my debit card and found that nearly three thousand had disappeared from my account - after the initial panic I realised Dell had put through two orders and that they had not sent me two duplicate receipts, there were two machines. Thankfully managed to get cancelled and refunded before dispatch but not even an apology from Dell.

I think dell has a problem wish shipping extra things sometimes. At my last job I was the head of technology for a school district and I purchased all dell (the whole county of schools did). They once sent me a complete desktop PC that I had not placed an order for...along with some systems that I DID order. Long story short: I called dell and they told me the service tag did not exist...I said "ok thank you...bye".

Hey Jumbie,
I'm in the same boat but further along the river than you.
Ordered an Inspiron with the coupon deal on April 6th.
I was unsure and entered the wrong amount that my CC/debit could use per day. Which could have cancelled the online purchase.
Next few days the charge disappeared from my online bank queue as if it did not go thru ~ so i thought.

This was the same time the XPS deal went down to like 1500+ shipped.
about 50$ less than first order. Of course I ordered one and opened a DPA account. Yeeeebah

Unfortuntely, they shipped the Inspiron. The order i thought had been cancelled. doh..
Rep told me to "Refuse the Shipment" and provided a case number for my reference/RMA. I never touched the box from UPS as our Company Receptionist Refused the Laptop.

If you accept the box, or open they could charge a restocking fee.
Refusing = full amount of money back. Rep said.
They will not refund or begin refund process until they get the box back.
Shipment was refused on April 18th. Till this day my Full Refund has not reached my bank account. A Follow up call about a week ago said they received the Laptop back and a Full refund would appear in about 15days.
I've been telling them the quicker they give my money back the quicker they can sell a 30in flat screen.... i'm still waiting
They still have a few days before I go BF2 on them...

I think you're right. IIRC, a few months ago, somebody arrived home one evening to find a new Dell computer which he hadn't ordered. Can't remember the full story (it was posted here at NBF, though), but, I seem to remember that Dell didn't want to retrieve it. Damn, I can't find that old thread - wonder what finally became of that situation. Anybody remember?
I don't recal the topic you mentioned but situation was similiar. Since they told me the tag wasn't a valid one...even though I was reading straight off the system...they wouldn't take it back. "It doesn't exist" I was going to argue

Wow, I'm poster #13 and Jumbie, i hope you get your money quicker than me.
I refused Inspiron Laptop package on April the 11th, Got a call from Dell saying they received package. after the 18th. Still no return of funds to my CCard.
Called Dell today, and they say they did not get the package. ???? wtf
Rep. conferenced UPS and said after attempted delivery back to DELL, they have moved... there is no reference of package. He was going to file a claim with me but the lady at UPS said they have to do some internal checking at Dell for the package. Why??? according to UPS tracking they still have it or not? see below.. why return to sender that refused package from ship address??? Meanwhile the Dell guy, says he has requested money be credited to me within 7-10 days from now.. ~ i'm sooo logging into BF2 now ;o) to let off some steam. At least I have my XPS to use ;o)

MENLO PARK, CA, US 04/18/2006 9:20 A.M. THE RECEIVER HAS MOVED. UPS ATTEMPTING TO LOCATE RECEIVER TO COMPLETE DELIVERY, NO DELIVERY WAS MADE;PACKAGE RETURNED TO SENDER

They finally gave me my credit for refusal of order

whole ordeal took about a whole month to return money for my refusal of shipment laptop. Thanks Dell Finance here's to you...

Truth is that we live in a burocreatic world. If they send you a lappy by mistake and they don't charge you for it, well, what is one going to do .

However, nothing gives you more pride than being honest.
Damn Danger, it took that long? Bastards are probably going to take a month to credit my credit card because they sent out two laptops that were cancelled!!
wow all your stories are some scary shit!

New egg double ordered on me last week after a server error said neither order went through. I called them and told them to give me the tracking #'s because I was going to refuse the shpmts. Took them back unopened to UPS to send back.

I had never run into this before ordering online. Screwy shopping cart software at their site. Freaked me out so bad, the next time I went there to browse their site, I realized I was logged in and logged out real quick

There is no excuse for dup orders. Especially for the same item within seconds.

Sounds like Dell has some major CS issues. Probably rush them thru training and leave them unprepared.

Well, I have good news on the other hand.

Dell has credited back my card already.
