Intel or Dell wireless?

Hi, just a quick question.

I'm in the middle of configuring an M90 and am curious. What are the strengths and weaknesses between choosing either the Intel or Dell wireless solution?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Any thoughts?

Or at least, any input regarding what people have chosen in the past and why?

I choose the intel 3945 wireless card, mainly because it's centrino energy certified. Seems t work great once I had the defective one intially installed replaced.

I have the DELL one no issues here but if you get the DELL one, you dont get the Intel Centrino sticker. I only have the Core Duo, and XP sticker.

also intel releases driver updates a lot quicker then dell.

both do the job fine when it comes down to it. i choose the intel simply because i usually need a little more money spent to get a coupon to work

Ah great, thanks for the responses!

lets just say that I sell the 3945 to people because they hate the Dell (shrug) but I don't know from first hand experience

I have had no problems with the Intel card but I've read a lot of people complaining about them. I even use the little Pro-set client so I can connect to the LEAP wireless at work; no issues ever.

BTW I can pull in a wireless signal VERY well. I don't know if that's because of the card or because the antenna runs along the outside of the LCD and since the 9300 has such a huge screen it makes for a longer antenna.

My 9300 came with the Dell wireless, and it dropped signal constantly. I replaced it with a 2915 from Intel and I now have 12+ hour uptime with no dropped signal (Linksys router).

Oh yeah, also, any idea where I can get my hands on internal wireless cards? (Dell or Intel).

I want to outfit my wife's inspiron with one.

For the B/G card I use (Intel)
Newegg Intel2200

For the A/B/G card AlexF referenced
Newegg Intel 2915 (refurbished?)

The 2915 says refurbished but I'm sure you can find it on there for just about that new, just go to Newegg.com . I'd have no problem buying refurbished parts from Newegg but I bet you won't save much on the $30 wireless getting it refurbished, might as well look for a new one.
Good luck.

Honestly, if I was you I would get the cheapest then order an Atheros.

I have the Intel 2915 A/B/G Wireless, and it's good over all. I do get frequent drops.

My girl has a Linksys PCMCIA WiFi card and while mine can sometimes pick up hot spots that hers will not, the one that we use in the apartment I'll get dropped quiet often and she will not.

Though, I prefer mine over her's, simply because I can pick up a ton more hot spots than hers, so I am more often that not, able to get online when she can't. Which is why I bought a cross-over cable, so she can use my connection when she can't pick up any hot spots.

I ended up getting the Dell card (they were actually the same exact price).

I figure worst comes to worst, if it doesn't work out I can replace it with something else.

Any idea who's internals Dell's card uses?

My Dell TrueMobile 1300 is made by Broadcom. I had to switch from the Intel 2200 in order for OSX to work.
