That company is a piece of shit from what it seems.. They're advertising it as a Pentium 4 M 2.2 Ghz... First of alL A lappy with somethin above a Pentium M @ 2.2 isn't under 2000$ in pricetags.. It uses a shitty Pentium 4 processor then, and they're doing fake advertising to drive newbie users into buying it.

According to that processor, the battery life on it is horrible. You could find a much better deal than that...

ok 198, what my buddy above me meant to say is let us know what you budget is and maybe we can help you find something a little newer for about the same price. also, look at the coupon section in the forums.

hey no problem at all. I get the point though thanks. my budget is around 500 us dollars. give or take 100. I dont need anything real special. just something that is pretty quick for todays standards. will probably just run a few little programs on it and the rest just browsing internet and wordprocessing. a dvi port would be nice but not necessary.

well thank you , it seems your the only one who thinks this according to the little red dot under my name :P try this link http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=19&l=en&s=dhs the Inspiron B130 seems like a pretty nice machine. let us know if its close to what your looking for. if not we'll find you something else. EDIT: if you scroll down on the dell page select customize, then add the 60 gig hard drive and add the Dell 1370 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps, then the price comes out to $609 i hope this helps ^_^

Its an okay notebook. My friend has one and it is extremly light and durable for her. She uses it mostly for school for surfing the net and word processing. It's style is a bit outdated but she loves the little thing...

To answer your question, I'd say its a "good deal", but there are better deals out there. Happy shopping!

ya it looks good. but if there are better deals than that by all means show me

well, if its shopping for computers, then you'll probably find some great deals locally. check the paper for bestbuy's sales or circuit city's stuff... then if you want to cut out the middle man, you can always look into whichever computer is going to be phased out (manufacturers drop hundreds off of low end models they want to replace) online.

I can't name any off the top of my head, but I saw a few great values on base (army/navy bases don't offer sales taxes)

well there isnt any bases located near me and if there was could I even purchase from them? and best buy, circuit city have some okay deals but nothing better than what dell can do. right??

Well, the Dells are ok, but you have to wait for them to build and ship to you. If I needed a cheap no frills laptop to just do some work and surfing on, I'd just go to my local best buy/circuitcity/compusa style places and get an Acer 2423WXCi.

Here's a link for it at Newegg which has pretty good pricing.

well hotty198, i just ordered the machine i recomended to you for my little sister (she going to college- YAY!!!!) and it will be shipped by the 12th of this month. she will be using it for word processing, ebooks, internet browsing, and chatting with me

so it wont take them that long to build it, and the warranty is pretty good, and she always has big bother to fix it when something goes wrong
this will be her first laptop and im sure she will enjoy it.

congratulations! I hope your lil sis enjoys the new toy/tool. I remember reading in a pc magazine somewhere that you can build your own laptops. would this be an even better route. I have built my own 2 desktop pc's already. this one that Im typing on now being the second one. so I do have experience piecing together the parts. But you usually dont save to much money after the shipping costs from different online stores. just a thought though.

well, theres that option as well. heres a site with a pretty nice selection.

just browse through all the models. there are many that are fairly inexpensive for the package your going to get. let us know what you think.
