Ok does it give you an error or just not show anything. Take a screenshot of the problem in question and post it here so we can get a better handle on the problem. My fist suggestion would be to take the drive out and reinsert it maybe it is just not althe way in? can you see it unde My Computer? Can you play CD's / DVD's. Is Nero the only problem? Your question is a little vauge we need more info!

Here is what happened: I got my Area51m and it came with Nero preinstalled but I noticed it seemed to be some sort of “light” version. Since I own a copy of Nero 5, I just uninstalled the preinstalled version and installed my full version of Nero 5. Now, my DVD/CD-RW drive work s fine – I can see it in My Computer, watch DVDs, the works – but Nero does not have it listed in the dialog to select a CD recorder.

I downloaded version 6 demo of Nero and it can see my drive. I guess I’ll have to go back to what was preinstalled or upgrade to version 6….

Yeah, Nero provides updates to its versions as soon as its made aware of a new optical drive being made available. They are usually very fast about getting it out there' If you look in the readme file, it will list the drives that Nero knows about and has included in that version. Occasional upgrades are your best bet though. Version 6 has alot more features and is more user friendly anyways. I whipped out an excellent SVCD first try with it. version 5 never would cooperate in that dept.
Also remember that optical drives have bios's that can be corrupted and or updated. I would consider this as last option territory thou. Bios's are delicate creatures at best.
