Woohoo!

I have installed both, just 'because'...

Haven't noticed any difference yet. Orbicam was working ok before, so I'm not sure about any changes....

I wonder why they 'slowed' the HD to Ultra Mode 5. What was it at before?

I googled it and found the following speeds:

Ultra DMA Mode Transfer Rate (MBps)
Mode 0 16.7
Mode 1 25
Mode 2 33.3
Mode 3 44.4
Mode 4 66.7
Mode 5 100
Mode 6 133

I can only assume it was at 6. Why slow it down? Battery savings?

Any thoughts?

Best,

Benjamin

I'm excited about the Merom support (in fact, ecstatic), but confused about the hard drive throttling. Mode 6 is just at the low edge of what SATA supports, I think, and so going to Mode 5 is strange.

I _have_ noticed that my 8204 gets very warm right under my hard drive... Maybe it's heat-related. ???

We could speculate all day as to why they dropped the HD from Mode 6 to Mode 5. The reality is the drive will never get to Mode 5 speeds anyway. Probably something to do with reliability/lessen the chance of corruption...
